Mini SNES board hacking...

Well my SNES portable is almost done... but i have a problem

. After making my case, the bottom of the SNES mini motherboard doesn't fit. How much can I take off before I hit anything? The part I need to cut is where the control plugs used to be. The same side in Ben's book where you cut off the MB corners. If someone can post a pic with a line of how far, that would be great! Advice is good too, tho.

You can cut until you hit the traces. You can also cut through some of the traces as long as you reconnect them in the same place. Send me some pics when you're done.

you can cutr the corners off easily and a little bit before you get to the controllor ports

. now i can make it fit. Wakefire since this is my first portable i am making the case with bens design. do u still want pics? the other portable im working on is a noac and its custom... far from done tho

I cut off a lot of the board and mine still works I cut about 1/8th of an inch on the ground areas!

I reccomend NOT cutting your SNES mini. It's already pretty small, and you'll see that once you fit everything else together that it could be maybe 1-3" LONGER and it would still fit with no additional space being taken up.

thanks kurt ill wait and c once the case is together... but just holding the mb up to the engraving plastic piece i can see that it may be too long

well i really dont want to redo the back plate AND get more plastic so i think i may just cut the board

you can definitly cut a bit off of it safely the cornes come off but dont go nuts and you can shave a bit off near the controllor ports juist like i said in my previous post

Heh. I think thats how mY SNES Mini broke. I cut the sides down just a tad bit, and it didnt work

So I cannot get it back in the gamegear. Though, it Is a really small board, I guess i'l get a new plan.

Thanks guys, but i decided to take a "different" approach. now i dont have to cut the snes mb, and i am making a SNES portable unlike any other! it is turning out great, and i dont think this has ever been attempted with this system. I'll have pics up in a few days on a new post! until then...

Not to put you down or anything, but I thought mine was going to be so original and great and small, but as the idea evolved it turned out looking like everybody elses

(Although I haven't exactly BUILT it yet...)

One idea that I still want to try is to be the first person to make a smaller case for the cartridge! I know it won't work that great for games with the expansion ports, but I can probably reduce the size (and width) or most games.

Dont worry Kurt, my case is nearly done and it really is neat.

It's not extremely small, but it works nonetheless.

PS: tell me if you ever get anywhere on making smaller carts... sounds cool!
