Ah the lovly grey area that has plauged the minds of people since the invention of the VCR. As far as I know, and this could be totaly wrong. It's ok to do, just like it's ok (and don't quote me on this) to tape stuff on your VCR as long as you don't sell it.

I mean a PVR dose the same thing as some guy with a TV tuner card and a big hard drive.

As long as you don't distribute it falls under "fair use". If you want you can back them up, but again only personal use.

Enjoy.

I think(I'm not totally sure), that you have to own the original movie to download it(I'm not gonna rat you out if you do). As far as taping it, yes it is perfectly legal as long as no money is made off it.

Yes, you can, if you don't distribute it or get it from somewhere else. If you do, the FBI will break down your door, take your computer, and put you in jail for life. Oh, wait. That's right. Nobody cares.

Lol. But if song downloads are illegal without paying, why would movies be legal? Answer me that, Mulletman.

I think the key word here is "download" ... in other words, he didn't record the episode himself; he's getting it from someone else (who is distributing it). In this case, both parties could be subject to criminal and civil litigation.

He said tv shows, big difference from movies. As for music downloads, its viewed as illegal for the reason everyone knows. But really you can get them off the radio (that falls under fair use), you can copy the CD for your friend(s), there are a number of ways you can do it. The thing is Dowloading is the new thing and as it can be spread all over the world the RIAA and MPAA don't like it at all.

And I'd like to add that recording, or as I see it having a recording of a tv show/episode, and it hasn't been released on DVD that falls under fair use. Much like anime fan subs like you to destroy the fan subs once a license or DVD of that anime are release. The fair use runs out once the media is accesible to the public from the producer directly.
