Confusing battery situation

I am building a SNESp from the tech specs in Ben's book, and as I understand, the battery charger and batteries are no longer available. I got the 8 hour battery Ni-MH charger from Radio Shack. 9.6 volts and 1600mAH. if i hack up the pak for the batteries and use this charger, will it power the SNESp? if not, I have 6 Ni-MH batteries (1.2 volts each) and 2000 mAH. What rc car charger can charge these batteries with the same plug mod as the one in Ben's book?

Which ones tech specs? Probably cnc but just asking. And any charger that can charge ni-mhs should charge the 6 AAs.

actually im hand building it. when u say the nimh batteries will be charged by any nimh charger, does that mean the 8 hour radio shack charger that charges 1600mAH will charge my Ni-MH batteries that are 2000mAH? Thanks

as long as its outputs the proper voltage it should be ok

I would suggest going with the 6 AA batteries. Reason is your likely still using the 7805 regulator so less heat is generated, and 2000mA is more then 1600mA.

Edit - As for the RadioShack charger working for the AAs yes. Ben does this in his Handbuilt SNES from the book. You can do that if you want. Be aware that you will have to disconnect the batteries from the system to charge (don't want an explosion), though to upside is that you can power the system through the charger while that is happening.
