Okay, I've done a lot with the N64...especially RGB. I finished the portablizing stuff but dropped the project because...well...the system sucks =P
Here's what you need to know
RGB: PAIN IN THE @$$. The only RGB compatible N64's are the mobos from 96 to early 97 (with the U4 Chroma Encoder chip). However, that's not enough. The contrast is dark as hell with the mod, so you have to do another (somewhat complicated) amp mod for the RGB lines. It's the mod used for RGB on the PCE...it's the latest update on gamesx.com
Power: Use a DC-DC converter for the 3v line. For the 12v line, you can remove the 7805 and use 5v or use 7.2v...the 12v is only for a volume amp IC, without it you get sound, just not as load.
Heatsinking: The main chips that need it are the 3 (or 4 depending on what board you have) large Nintendo chips and the Expansion pack 4MB chip if you're going to use that. It all needs excessive heatsinking cause that sucker gets hot as hell.
Controller: Make sure you have an official one, the Madcatz and other 3rd party ones are crap.
That's about it...You can also remove the expansion slot from the bottom...the cart input slot actually pulls right out.

P.S. Please let me know how you worked out your PS2 battery...I emailed you a while ago...
