Yeah just strip the wires. You'll probably need to make them longer, so solder on some ribbon cable wire and wrap the joint in heatshrink tubing or electrical tape.

Thanks for all the help so far guys! I now have the screen hooked up, got the system running on batteries and have relocated the cartridge slot.

I only have 1 problem. I have lines that are darker and brighter going across the screen diagonally. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

what are you using to power the N64?
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

I am using a temporary battery source before I spend money on some expensive batteries. They are 6 c cell batteries on the TI dc-dc converter. They output 9.5volts. I try another game and see what I get.

ah...well that rules out the possiblity of only 3V on the 3.3V line....hmmm....you may have shorted something on the screen, also. check near the main chips to see if anything's shorted.

I just checked with the N64's normal power supply and I got rid of the lines, and the batteries won't work any more. So I think I have a cold or bad solder. I'm sure it's just a solder though.

6C cell alkaline batteries will start out at exactly 9 volts, and decrease mostly evenly till they are dead at about 7 volts. people say that the dc-dc will run off 7.2v, but i am still skeptical that it works properly at that votage.

so yeah. my guess is that your batteries were just dying.

and, once again, you dont get an accurate reading if you just put your multimeter across your battery pack. clearly... you measured 9.5 which is too high even if they are fully charged.

Yes,10 AA batteries would work and give you 1.5-2.5 hours of play time.

However, I'd recommend against it. I used AAs in my last portable, but they were a mangy female dog to charge. They also vent and overheat when too much current is drawn.

What kind of battery would you reccomend that I would use and would give me an optimum amount of playtime?

As far as the diagnal lines on the screen, I, too, have a problem similar. I have been working on mine for a couple weeks now (mostly due to lack of parts) but so far I have it running on a battery, just no internal screen or controller. Im using a cheap battery thats only semi-charged -havent gotten a charger yet  but anyway its 9.6v and 1500mah(not very good). Its just temporary. I only bought it cuz it was on super-clearance for $7.00 at walmart, but when I hook my N64 to a tv I get those lines too. It probably because of crappy batteries. I wouldnt worry about a shorted screen because u see lines.
