would THIS work?

the old n64 is dead to me, mostly i can't run it and never had the adaptor. so im getting a new one tomorrow, with which i shall do battle, using a new strategy. my family USED to go on vacation a lot, so we have this random thing used in the car:

what i want to do, if this works, is actually leave the original n64 power supply INSIDE the portable like so:

(my screen runs off of 12v dc by the way)
so, the inverter weighs 1 lb, and barely even half a pound when when the metal casing is removed. and for size, it is about the same size as the n64 power supply with the metal on. so please give suggestions or feel free to cuss me out and forever ruin my self esteem. whatever, just tell me if you think this will work.

im pretty sure it would definatley work, but having the power brick would mean a huge portable, unless you have it stick out the back where it is not in the way.

I would use a TI DC-DC converter. I just got mine working to run my N64.

Note: The 3.3v TI converter runs fine on 7.2v. I tested this for half an hour, and got crystal clear video and sound.

Using an DC/AC converter is not recommended... It is very unefficient and usually ends with a jump power supply. I, for one, would not go from a 12V DC power pack, to 120V AC, then back down to 12V DC: definitely NOT good, meaning battery life would be very low. You could just use the 12V battery alone to power the N64... no go-betweens. The downside is you'd have to use a 3.3V DCDC converter, however you can get these FREE.

i wouldnt take off the metal casing. its sort of dangerous. also, it gets pretty hot.
