What names do you have for your portable projects?

Post by Wayne Venomous »

I'm now working on a NES based portable (having a break from the CRT Atari) and I've decided to name it after two of my favorite NES games, Mike Tyson's Punch Out and Donkey Kong.

It's called "Donkey Punch" I think it has a nice ring to it...

Anyone else have any interesting/quirky names for projects?

Well, my next Atari will be called the "Atari 2600 MICRO", because of the overall size I know how to hack the PCB. And my NOAC Will be called "The Nintendo Cart" Because I want it to be roughly that size...

Well done! I wasn't expecting anyone to notice that straight away! :D
I thought the pun "Has a nice ring to it" might've given a clue.....

I am being serious though - that's the name!
I've got an old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toy which has a huge head which to me could also be used as a novelty portable housing. I could call that "The Turtle's Head".....

I'm just wondering how many people have done a search on Google for "Donkey Punch"

Mind you, there's a lot of names for Nintendo portables/clones that sound like some sort of dodgy German gay porn:

Game Boy
Hot Boy
Joy Boy
Magic Boy
Power Joy
Super Joy

Wonder if there's ever been a demand for rental game boys? They could call it the Rent..........

Why not just add p at the end of the console name?

Perhaps somebody should come up with a list of words you can add to create a portablized system name.

I'll get ya started:
  • Mobile
    Portable
    Module
    Unit
    Frankensteined
    Redesigned
    Re-oriented
    Original
    Compact
    Transportable
    Weildly (Imagine that! A WNES)
    Versatile
    Mini
    Re-released
    Hacked-Up
And Now make amusing acronyms using these as prefixes/suffixes:

The Compact Original Weildly SNES. Or the "COW SNES"
It could be a rather amusing game! Make your PG-13 or less portable acronyms!

(The Gaming Ordinal National Asscosiation for Developing Systems. :P :P :P :D )
