heat sink grease

QUESTION:
is the grease underneath the stock heatsinks conductive?

there's no grease but there are pads and they aren't conductive

yes there was after I took the heat sinks off. I'll post a pic.

that's wierd, any N64s i ever opened had a pad. maybe that's just residue from the pad. test it with a multimeter to see that it's not conductive

the problem is i wiped it off but think i got some on the pins. i need some1 to check it 4 me.

I remember seeing some rubbery tape crap on the back of the metal blocks covering the heatsinks. I'll test it's conductivity when I get home.

if it's on the pins, test the N64 to see if it works. if it works, it isn't conductive. if it doesn't work, it's probably conductive

i noticed that I had a little bit of extra grease on the RAM chips. I tested them with a multimeter and they are not conductive

if any one else has this problem then don't worry about it.

Darn! I had just tested this as well. Got the same results BTW, but applying current through an unknown material on your IC probably wasn't the best thing to do.
