New Nintendo DS Dismantling Thread

Post by inajamaica »

Hey all,

I'm disassembling the DS in an attempt to paint it...I've gotten most of the way, but I need to separate the 2 halves of the clamshell.

As far as I can tell, I need to separate the hinge, and a harness or two for the ribbon cables that go through the hinge.

What I can't figure out is, how do you separate the harnesses? I pryed up the top (black) part of the harness, but it seems to be hinged onto the portion that's soldered to the main board. Anyone know how to separate it?

I'm also @ a loss for how to separate the main hinge for the system...

(note: I saw some example shots of Cennar's disassemble here: http://benheck.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php? ... c&start=15, which I mistakenly re-awakened...)
Just to be different...

yeah I have disassembled my ds and I came to the same exact problem
I couldnt get past it so I just go a ziploc bag and some masking tap and taped off portions of the DS as I was painting it. It took longer but the results are the same. well IMO anyway

What colors are ya plannin on using?

Hey, thanks for the reply...I almost went for the tape-up solution until I found this site:

http://www.psychotic-arts.com/dsrepair/

It has very limited explanations, but it does have the steps correct (even though it takes a little deciphering to figure out exactly what they mean...)

As it turns out, there are a bunch of DS shells out there that you can buy in different colors, which is why the above site exists.

I still want to go for a custom paint job...I have some Rustoleum Plastic Primer in white that I'll shoot it up with first, & then this:

I've gotten a lot of flack from my punk friends : ), but I've always wanted a pink DS to go with my GBA:

push the inside ring from the hinge when its in the fully opened position you know laid down not just snaped opened. that will make it much eazyr. and taping things sucks for details so yeah keep in mind that you can remove the screen protector and aply it again i did no problem
