Big iPod Mini Problem

I think my iPod Mini's (1'st generation) battery doesn't want to hold much of a charge any longer. I don't really want to replace the battery. I don't have the warrenty slip, but I know it is about a year old now. Do you guys think Apple will trade it in for a Nano?

All the newer Ipods have batteries that drain much faster than normal so you HAVE to get it replaced every year or so. Damn apple.

Almost deffinately. My friend's ipod broke and they are now shipping him an ipod video in it's place... Go apple!

Update: it seems that I still have a warrenty, because I checked it on Apple's website.

If it's still under warranty, exchange it.

However I recommend against any of the smaller iPods. If you can get it replaced for free (or cheap) that's good, but if you're buying new go with the full size model. You get more storage for your money.

If anything, don't buy a 512 MB Shuffle. It's the most pointless thing ever. A $30 MP3-CD player holds an additional 188 megs per disc, and you can program playlists and play regular CDs if you want to. Minidisc players are another option.

I think the full size iPod batteries work for about 18 months, the smaller flash-memory models bite the dust after about a year.

all batteries lose their capacity over time. if you are charging your ipod, say, 5 times a week, then you are putting it through approximately 250 cycles per year, or 375 every 18 months.

lithium batteries are usually rated for 300-500 cycles, although this number is improving. 300-500 might seem like a rather large gap, but it all depends on how you treat your batteries. the lower you discharge them each cycle, the faster they will loose their capacity.

different devices will take the batteries to different discharge levels before they cut out. for example, a wireless optical mouse might take your nimh batteries down to .9v or lower before the led goes out. a 7MP digital camera with a 3 inch LCD isnt going to make it that far before one of its critical systems shuts down. im guessing that the ipod without a screen can drain the batteries fairly low before it shuts off. so if you are like most people and drain your ipod to dead before putting it on the charger, than you should not realistically expect more than 18 months out of an ipod battery (assuming youre charging it 5 times a week, of course).

so take care of your batteries, and dont wait until they are dead to charge them.

i would say get a creative Zen but i doubt apple would let you trade it in for one o thems

Ive got the touch which is brilliant but its stopped being made, been replaced by the 20Gb micro instead which my friend has

Ok, I'm testing the battery. After 4 hours, the battery is down to 1/4 left. That's pretty bad, I think.
