EDIT: What the hell?
I wired up my p64 and connected it to the TV. Turned the TV on to video in... nothing. Surprising because yesterday it worked fine. I tried it with the wall wart... still nothing. I couldn't have fried it since yesterday could I? It just sat on my shelf until now.
Also, when you start an N64 up and there's no cartridge in it does it have a blank screen or does it flash the Nintendo logo?... need to know to see if it's a problem in my cartridge extension.
Thanks

see if the dc-dc convertor will work with the battery you have but make sure you play for a long time because mine worked great for about half hour and then got funky but worked again when i charged the battery. if yours gets messed up while playing. it'd be cheaper and easier to just get a different dc-dc convertor than trying to power the one you have now

Hope this helps:
I too have bought this 9.6V rechargeable. But what im noticing is this:
When the battery is at full charge, it outputted 11V.The same thing with some of my rechargeables. They are rated for 1.2V but at full charge, some of them get up to 1.5V
So When the 9.6V battery was dying, It dropped slightly under 9v. I dunno If It would work too good, but a 7808 wouldnt be too expensive to buy it and test it out for yourself.
But the 9.6V battery is only available in the 1000 mAh and 1600 mAh forms, so it wont give you too much play time. If you wired two in series, or just got a 7.2V battery with a much higher capacity, you'd be better off.
Oh wait! You said you had a TI converter, correct? I ordered the one rated for 2 Amps, and input of 9V. But mine was outputting the correct 3.3V off of my 7.2V battery which wasn't even fully charged! If you could try this:
Return the 9.6V for a 7.2V one and try it out. if that dosent work, you can just bring it in (again) for the 9.6V battery, possibly getting two for a longer play time.

I just did exactly that... great minds must think alike.
Anyways the 7.2V 2000mAh Ni-Cad is charging now, the pack is pretty big, they must be C-cells or something. Whatever. As long as it works! And besides, for $25 for the pack and the charger, I couldn't pass it up. Good thing Radioshack is nice with returns. I'll try it out soon, thanks man.
people have found that the converters work erratically at 7.2 volts. lights might turn on, but when you actually look at your screen, the picture could be garbled up.
anyhow, when you let batteries sit for a while, then test them with the multimeter, they will give you an innacurate reading. get this through your head people.

THANK YOU! How did I forget the expansion pack... Well now it works again thanks gannon! p64 should be finished by Sunday if nothing else goes wrong...
EDIT: Wow nice one Joe... while plugging in the jumper pack I think I fried the mobo... maybe it's a time-delay fuse(hopefully) Anyways it worked for about half a second then broke, at least I can say it worked one time
