I'd count how many re-releases Nintendo has under it's belt, but I want to get some sleep tonight...I seriously can't believe they pulled another stupid stunt like this, and I can only hope it bites them so hard in the ass, it'll bite some sense into them... :?

let's see here.....for Gameboy: Original, Pocket, and, er...Light :P?

GBC: Er....I think there was only one version, just different colors

GBA: Original, SP, Micro, SP remade ;).

DS: Original, New one.

so that's....10 different portables they've come out with, I believe
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

You're missing the Pokemon Mini and the Pikachurized Tamagotchis.
There was also a re-release of the GBO, the Play It Loud series with colored cases.

Didn't they release a series of GBO models in several colors including clear around the time the GBP came out?

Nintendo Hardware Redesigns (major)

NES: Original VCR-loader, top-loader

SNES: Original, mini

N64: original, Pikachu

GCN: I think there's only one version... (for now)

Virtual Boy: only the original

GBO: original in many colors, pocket in many colors, light

GBC: original in many colors

GBA: original, SP, Micro, backlit SP

DS: original, iDs (as I hereby dub it :P)

And now Sony:

PSX- original, PSone

PS2- original, PStwo

Sega:

SMS- original, smaller without the PC card slot (IIRC)

Genesis: original, Genesis II, Genesis III, Nomad, and all the 32x and CD models to go with them

Saturn:just one (i think)

Atari:

PONG: too many to count

2600 VCS- Heavy sixer, light sixer, 4-switch, 4 switch Vader, Jr. w/ large rainbow stripe, Jr. with small rainbow stripe, various others, Sears Video Arcade (I think they built them but branded them as Sears...)

Lynx: original, Lynx II

Not gonna list all the others... I think Atari only made one model of each anyways... :?

I would say that the jump from 96-97 (loss of RGB modability) and 97-98 (loss of some failsafes) revision N64s were pretty big. Well, atleast for us portablilizers...

You reminded me of something I've been meaning to ask:

Could anyone explain to me about the N64 versions? How many? What was different? Etc...

Well I mentioned basically what the differences were, the only thing I forgot to say was that the newer ones (98-coloured\pikachu) were better for OCing because of the lack of failsafes.

As much as I'd love to embrace my fanboy instinct, I somewhat agree with you. This is a pointless redesign. Sure, people complained about the looks of the first one, but this is just too soon. Their reasoning could possibly be that they seem to have the Japanese handheld market in the bag, with the DS outselling every other console each week, and they'd like to increase that lead by even more.

I don't understand why it would come back to haunt them, though, Luc. They'll get more sales for the DS, or at least the same amount as they're having currently. Its not like people aren't going to buy this redesign. Although I do agree that Nintendo needs to freaking stop redesigning their systems every few years (or every year in this case). Its pointless, but I doubt it'll hurt them.
