When I talked to him he never even heard of it before. He didn't show too much interest in it, but he did give a few pointers.
Also, could anyone post any high res internal pictures of the thing?

I talked to Kevin Horton just a bit ago about this and he suggested dumping the onboard games to see if they're being emulated or not
According to the Radica website they are the original unmodifed games, it's more a case of figuring out the pin-outs for the rom chip.

I've got all the wires attached to the ROM spot but have only connected a few sure-fire ones (GND and VCC) to the cartridge slot.

I just don't know where to start!

I miscounted PINS!

Post by benheck »

Wow. Some Portable Crusader I am.

For some dumb reason I counted 8 pins between the GND's and the edges, but there's 9! I came across this while wiring the ROM to the cart connector.

So now the PINS on a Genny ROM match the Radica ROM spot pretty much dead-on, even considered that Pin 1 of the Radica ROM is NC.

With my tail between my legs I'll wire up the cart connector using this NEW pinout. If it works I'll post the pinouts.

Sorry!

And now I shall remove you from the LPC list for thy sin, sir Ben. :P

street fighter radica - two joystick cart pinouts...........

Post by bleughbleugh »

been tracing the pins thru, and looks like the streetfighter 'two control pad' and the sonic 'one control pad' are fairly similar

the important pins are the same

1 NC (well, it goes to a pad on the PCB that looks like it could have a reg fitted, so this is probably an unused VCC / 3v input)
13 GND
23 VCC
32 GND
33 VCC

the street fighter uses single LS32 Or gate and a single HC174 flip flop on the underside

things of note are

2 LS32 pin 6 (A18)
3 LS32 Pin 3 (A17)
6 HC174 Pin 14 (A5)
7 HC174 Pin 13 (A4)
8 HC174 Pin 11 (A3)
9 HC174 Pin 6 (A2)
10 (CPU) - segasonics went to HC174 pin 4 - A1
11 (CPU) - segasonics went to HC174 pin 3 - A0
34 (CPU) - segasonics went to LS32 pin 6 - A16
35 (CPU) - segasonics went to LS32 pin 7 - A15 (not GND as stated)
43 LS32 Pin 8 (3y)
44 LS32 Pin 11 (4y)

all other pins seem to go to the CPU - 32 pins in total, which would give 22 address lines and 10 data lines (1 Mbit, defo not, ben's proved that)
or
21 addres lines and 11 data lines (2Mbit, unlikley)
or
20 address lines and 12 data lines - more likley since the rom chip says 4M on it, which is probably 4 Mbit

so, the specs are the same, however, it seems that probably some of the address and data lines are changed around a bit

Ben, how did you go about determining the actual pinouts?,
was it just a case of plug in and see?

oh, segasonicfan, looks like in your rom cart summary, you've got 1 pin wrong, 35 goes to pin 7 of the LS32, it cant or it'd be grounded!,

so, in summary, those that can't get carts to work on their streetfighter game probably need to swap about some of the address lines a bit!

my guess as which ones to try would be - assume the data lines are correct, although its not possible to test whats what, only the address lines A0-A1 and A15-A16 seem actually to differ as they're no longer passed thru an or gate or the flip-flop

hope that makes sense

Whoa! Ancient thread alert!

Locked. Please don't bring up such ancient threads.

*revises the rules thread to make things a little more clear because this happens quite a bit lately*
