Oddesy may have been the first of the home systems, but the Atari VCS/2600 is what made home gaming truly popular, and truly "started it all".

Ok here I go.

Dreamcast- Has a lot of emulators, first 128bit system, but everyone will say this. The true reason I loved this system was that is was the first to offer online play and PSO would not have been has fun without it. Fighting alone side people that could be around the corner to as far as Europe or Japan just ruled. Oh and the language filter was good for a laugh every now and then.

Genesis- I played this most out of it and the SNES. It offered a great library of games (General Chaos, look it up!). The expansion system Sega CD was just about the coolest thing. You couldnt have Willie Beamish without it, you had the have full motion video for the dialoge.

Playstation- A great system, had again large library of games. Easily modded to play copies (couldnt resist). And what makes it better then N64 or PS2 is that it has the first Armored core and nothing beats the original.

PS2- Highend system that offered DVD playback first. Great video sections in games (FFX). Grand Theft Auto series (3 and Vice City).

Atari VCS/2600- Pitfall. I never owned one until I bought one to portablize but some friends of ours had one and Pitfall was the best game to play hands down.

NES- Can I over emphisis the size of its game library? It has all the classics and now is one of the easiest systems to portablize.

Xbox- Nice online play, has PSO and halo.

NOOOOO!!!! how could I bring back a thread so old!!! well, it's for a good purpose. I've gotta write my list of top ten, and perhaps others, too.

remember, no spam posts or thread hijacking, this is top ten lists ONLY! there's a discussion thread somewhere, too, if you guys want to drag that up.
Also, please note that I’ve ranked the systems based on their games, pretty much, and how fun it is to play them for me. If forced to choose a system to play games on, it'd definitely be Number 1 .

anyway, here goes (hee hee, 10 first, and THEN 1 ):
10. PS2
I own a ps2 (and only 4 years after it came out, too!) and right now I have 4 games for it. Shadow of the Colossus, GTA San Andreas, GT4, and Guitar Hero. All of those are great games, and I know there are many other amazing PS2 games out there, but quite frankly, I was never really a playstation gamer, and I’d rather spend money on other games. It does have one hell of a library, though. It’s definitely showing it’s age, though, and it’s high time for the PS3 already .

9. Gamegear
Ah, good ol’ Gamegear. Not many great games, but I do have fond memories of some. I seem to remember a few Sonic games for it, and a Power Rangers beat-em-up kind of game. Those were great fun, and I’m sure I had more, but I can’t remember now. A decent system, with a color screen (backlit, too!), I’ll always remember it, if only just for those few games .

8. Atari 2600
Omigosh, already it’s da 2600?!?! Why so low on the list?! Well, because I never got into it much. Sure, it’s what really started it all to make videogames popular, but I was too young for that era and never got into the games much, never having owned one . The games are fun, though, if a bit simple. I’ll always respect the 2600, though, even if I never play it much .

7. Xbox
Ok, so it’s made by Microsoft. So is Windows, and I still put up with that . Anyway, the Xbox has numerous great titles, like KOTOR, Jade Empire, Halo 1 and 2, Splinter Cell, PGR 1 and 2, Rainbow Six (love those games ), and tons of other games also available on other systems (like PoP, GTA, Star Wars Battlefront II, etc.). Xbox live is what really makes this my second favorite current/last gen system, because it really adds a lot to the gaming experience J.

6. Gameboy
When I say Gameboy, I’m talking about the original one. With the exception of Oracle of Ages/Seasons for GBC, not many games hit it off for me on that system. But the GBO had plenty great titles. Super Mario Brothers (first time I played that was on a gameboy, I think), LoZ: Link’s Awakening, Metroid II (found on a bus, oh yeah ), Tetris, and Pokemon (hey, the first ones were sweet ) are all cherished games for me. I’m still playing Metroid II and Link’s Awakening today, because I love those games . As for the GBA, it’s got plenty of great titles, but a lot of it’s best were remakes of SNES games . Of course, a lot weren’t, so I suppose the GBA fits in with the GBO. (Castlevania games and Metroid Fusion stand out ).

5. NES
Ok, so I never got into the NES that much. A little too young for that era, and even now I'm not as into. I love the games, though. Zelda, Metroid, Mega Man, Castlevania, Contra, Ninja Gaiden, TMNT, and Super Mario Brothers (1, 2, and 3) are, of course, classic and great games. These are the games that started it all for Nintendo (not counting Game and Watch, I suppose…) and as a gamer, I’ll always have a special place in my heart for the ones that started it all (for Nintendo ).

4. Gamecube
Well, I built the first portable, so obviously I'd better like the system . It has some great games, like Zelda (WW and TP), RE4, SMMB, Metroid Prime, SCII (yes, on all three, um, current/last gen systems, but it had link!!), Mario Kart Double Dash, and Super Mario Sunshine are some of it's great games. Sure, there's one too many Mario Party games, but who says we have to buy those? I'll always love playing a bit of my GCp .

3. N64
The N64 brought me so many great games that really boosted my "lve" of games. Goldeneye, SMB, Super Mario 64, Rush 2 (awesome game), Perfect Dark, Star Fox, Mario Party (first one), and, of course, the monumental OoT all are wonderful games that I still love playing today, and I'll always love those classic games.

2. Genesis
This is the system I grew up with, the one that made me a gamer. Sonic, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, various sports games, Power Rangers (hey, it was awesome back then !), Lion King (er, same reason as Power Rangers, nostalgia ), Ecco (I loved those games!)....so many great memories from that system, and it's still a great one to play today. I have it hooked up in my room now, of course .

1. SNES
Yup, that’s ma favorite one . As said before, I had a Genesis back in the days of 16 bit gaming. Never owned a SNES, though my friend did. Now, it's my favorite system, because of the enormous amount of quality games on it. Tons of RPGs, great platformers, Zelda: LttP (second favorite Zelda ), shooting games (I classify games like Contra AND Starfox or other, er, ship flying game thingies in this category ), fighting games, and probably more. Gameplay is what counted on this system, and I believe all of its best games delivered it to their fullest potential . TMNT 4 is still one of my favorite games of all time, if not JUST for pure nostalgia reasons. Oh, and Donkey Kong Country is awesome, too. And Contra. Chrono Trigger. Final Fantasy. Super Mario World. Mega Man <s>Soccer</s>. all awesome games/franchises .

Meh. While it's back...

(Ok, sorry for the Nintendo based list, but I never really owned much else:))

1) Computers (It's a gaming system:P) - By far the most versatile gaming system out there. You can do almost anything, including make your own games!

2) NES - Brought back video games from the video game crash. That's quite an accomplishment.

3) SNES - Proved that you DIDN'T need to load your next-gen system with all sorts of "high-tech" electronics to make a better gaming system (1.72 vs. 3.58mhz)

4) Gameboy - Brought Portable gaming to the next level (Or the first level if you exclude the game & watch)

5) N64 - What more can I say that hasn't already been said? It's a wonderful system, with graphics twice as good as playstations, and a broad array of not-too-kiddish games (Like GC's). Didn't like the controller though.

1. N64 - in my eyes it was nintendo's last great console (gamecube is fun but...)

2. Sony PS2 - not one i own but a damn fun console none the less

3. SNES - Only aquired on recently but its what im playing the most at the moment. Good ol' street fighter II and mario kart

4. Atari 1040 ST - technically a 16-bit computer but i still love it, one of my oldest memories is of playing that wonderful machine, i was about the age of 3 i think....playing pang, such a legendary game, or a may be looking through rose tinted glasses...

5. Sega Megadrive - A good all round console, below the SNES because i dont own one........yet

6. Sony PSOne - its not N64 but it had its moments

7. Gameboy - Wave race, tetris and pokemon, all i need to say (there are tons more i can be bothered to list them)



The worst console i ever played would probably have to be the Sinclair ZX Spectrum. Such a budget system, the games came on cassette tapes with wonderful titles like Terror-Dactyl 4D, its an ok system but was abismal compared to the C64.

1. N64
This system had Goldeneye, Zelda OoT and Super Smash Bros. I think it's the best because it allowed for 3d games with greater depth, but they didn't dwell on the graphics like they do in the current gen systems.

2. SNES
The apex of 2d graphics. Good games like Zelda, Stunt Race FX and Starfox.

3. Dreamcast
Some of the best games and artistry were put into this console but sadly poor management and marketing killed this machine. It is still great.

Admittedly, this list is going to be somewhat biased based on when I began playing the systems. But here goes...

1.) Atari 2600 - The first game console I ever played. I have tons of great memories associated with it. Even though the graphics weren't great, the games were a blast to play, some of my favorites being Dragon Fire, Demon Attack and Barn Storming.

2.) NES - This really brought about the beginning of a new era in video games. It got a lot of my friends interested in video games, up until then, very few of them had actually played any.

3.) Gameboy - It gave you a way to play fairly complex video games portably, and let you play multiple games from one device. Who wouldn't love that.

4.) Sega Genesis - All I could think of playing this was: wow, what weird yet totally amazing games this thing had, and what beautiful graphics. With games like Sonic the Hedgehog, Toejam and Earl, Earthworm Jim, these games kind of deviated from the norm, and were amazingly fun to play.

5.) Apple II/ DOS/ Commodore 64 - I'm going to throw all of these in the same pot for myself. The graphics quality wasn't great, but you could have games with plots, a beginning, middle and end.

6.) Nintendo 64 - For me there was this big dry spell in video games between the NES and N64. Yeah, there was the SNES, but that never really cut it for me, it was pretty much a souped up verson of the NES for me. This was an amazing advancement in my book.

7.) Gameboy Advance SP - Nintendo finally figured out what their customers knew for years, the gameboy needed a backlight, and it finally got it here. One of the great things about all of the gameboy lines was that it was, for the most part, backwards compatable. You can still play your old Gameboy games on the Advance.

8.) the PC - Okay, I know this isn't really a video game console, but it is at the end of my list, and it isabout the only way that I play new games. Games that properly utilize the fact that you have a mouse with two or more buttons, and a full keyboard to use for input devices, are great. Unfortunately, I'm seeing more and more games that are really geared toward consoles and are almost put on the PC as an after thought. While these games may still be fun to play, the controls and camera become a bit awkward if the developers ignore the PC side of things.

If we're going purely for consoles it would be:

1. Atari 2600 - I still use this console more than anything else. Simple but addictive games, you can always get more games on Ebay, plus it's the games console I grew up with. And also the woodgrain, the clunky swtiches, the cartridges, it's just like being in an American car from the 70's and it's cool!

2. NES - Purely for the amount of cheap entertainment you can get out of one of these things. Pay £5 from a second hand shop for the console and usually about £1 per game. And talk about choice of games! Everything from genuine games to dodgy Chinese/Taiwanese multi carts with strange game hacks in. And lets not even start on the amount of NOAC based game systems out there.

3. Sega Mega Drive/Genesis - The first time I was actually blown away with speed of gameplay and graphics was when one of my friends got a Mega Drive (UK Market) for Christmas. And then a certain game called Zero Wing got played - unfortunatly the people I mixed with at the time weren't the brightest and thought the intro was supposed to be some sort of futuristic language. All your base are belong to us. Hmm.....

4. Neo Geo - What every kid in my town (or every other town for that matter) wanted for Christmas but never got. The idea that you could play actual arcade games in your own home without putting loads of money into a coin-hungry machine (which for some reason a lot of late 80's/early 90's games were! Especially the Turtles game) appealed to all of us. It's the main reason that even to this day I really appreciate MAME.

5. Atari Lynx - Wow! I can play games in colour and anywhere! Makes camping trips interesting, makes long car journeys fly by. I was never a big fan of the Game Boy because of the lack of illumination and colour and the Sega Game Gear came later. The Atari Lynx even made me experiment with battery packs in order to get more life out the thing. Best set up I ever had was a rechargable burgler alarm back-up battery in my coat pocket with a wire running up the sleeve so I could plug it into the adaptor socket of the Lynx. Made me feel like that Japanese kid with all the inventions in The Goonies!

While viewing this list, keep in mind I still don't own an Atari, Game Gear ('cept a broken one), Game Cube, SNES, or Xbox. I have played some of those on occasion, but only a bit.

1) Genesis
(tme line: 1997) I wanted to get a Genesis like my friend had. But my parents didn't want me to have a game system, mainly due to people/media making them sound addicitive and violent.... And mostly they cost too much. So one day I was poking around, it was trash day, I saw something poking out of a trash can....could it be....no...YES!!! It was a model 1 genny! There were no controllers or power/video cords, but my parents had allowed me to keep it thinking I wouldn't be able to find all those. HA! Digging from thrift store to thrift store I found everythign I needed. The first game I had for it was a foot ball game I found for cheap, but I hated it, then I got Batman Forever. I was in bliss. Then came Sonic, more bliss, then Streets Of Rage, etc.
I think I like it so much because it was what started me on gaming. I wouldn't be here right now if it wasn't for that wondeful trash can.

2) PlayStation
My second system after the Genesis. I just have fond memorys of it. Me and my friend used to play Need For Speed every time we got together (And I would occasionally beat him!) I had so much fun playing at his house I scrimped and saved and finally got an old gray one used. I was the happiest kid on earth that day. And there are some truly awesome titles on it. MGS being my favorite.

3) Nintendo 64
I was a PS fanboy since that was the only thing I had ever played. But I was curious to see what all the fuss about it was. So I got an emulator and Goldeneye. I liked it so much i went out and bought one I found for $15. It was so much better than the Emulator! I was converted, no longer an anti-N64 fanboy. I now have a large collection and love it just as much as PS.

4) GBA
This was the first GB system I thought was worth buying, and it was well worth it. Just wish it had a darn backlight!
Doom would have to be my fav for it.

5) NES
Mario, Contra, Duck Hunt, and Ninja Gaiden. Those alone are worth keeping it plugged in to my TV.

6) Dreamcast
Sonic Adventure and Rush 2049. hoo yeah baby. It was just fun.

7) GBO
When my cousin first gave me her old GB, I freaked out. Literally. It was the single greatest thing I had ever held in my hands. If the screen didn't suck so bad it would be higher up in the list.

Xbox
It's got Halo, and is a very sturdy system, better than PS2 in my eyes.

9) PS2
Petty decent system. It never had enough games to really make me like it a lot. The only game I can ever remember gettin hooked on was Tony Hawk 3. GTA was to risky to play with my "AAAGH! M RATED GAMES=DEVIL!!" parents. I really haven't logged that many hours in to it, thats why it gets #9

10)
DS, since I will be getting one soon. And from what I have played so far, it's pretty darn fun.

5-N64-Mario Kart 64 kept my love for this system alive for a long time. LoZ renewed it tho when I finally tried it about 2 years ago and is now the main reason I'm trying to build a portable of it. The system gave birth to the smash brother series aswell that I couldn't live without (If only to take it on the road). Another system that didn't have much else on it for me tho. 5-6 games isnt enough to put it any higher than 5th.

4-PSOne-Just resently got this finally, I like it, but hate the load times. Every game I have has a loading time unlike any other. I'm probably used to the GC too much (the only games ive experienced massive load timnes is Ultimate Spiderman and Turok Evolution) but waiting about 25-30 for a match to start in smackdown 2 or 20-30 seconds for a battle in UB22 is nuts.. FF7 is the main title that made me buy it but I probably would've stuck with playing it for the PC if it was more expensive than $30. Sure theres games I want for it but its hard as hell to find/acquire them.

2-Gameboy Advance-I got the original System alittle late.. but I was blown away by the improvements when I first saw it at my school. The games are fun and you can find good/cheap ones at any pawnshop/used game store. The SP was ok (I'd perfer the reg over it anyday if it had afterburner installed or used the HALO). And the micro makes an awesome addition to anyones collection. The size is just perfect for me to take to class with me (It fits inside the pocket for a cellphone in my coat with my gba movie player and a game or two).

1-Gamecube-I honestly think a lot of people don't give it the praise because of the competition but for a pure gaming system I've found it 10x more fun then the PS2 (which the only game I'd play on it is FFX, and I've tried a lot) and XBOX (which has Halo of course, but thats what a PC is for). The only thing it really misses is GTA (but if I remember correctly, its better on the PC aswell). Honestly tho, these systems came out and were like 'look at us, you can watch movies on us" and I didn't need a $399 DVD player (That early versions fried playing movies to begin with)

I remember playing an Atari (I think) 5200 when I was youge but even at that age I didn't have enough imagination to have fun with it. I've had two Nintendos now and I love the system but I ended up losing a lot of the games I liked for it and I've got rereleaed versions of most the games that were classics for it (Metroid on Metroid Prime/Zero Mission, Super Mario All Stars, LoZ and AoL on the GC bonus disk, etc). I've alwasy liked the dreamcast, but always hated the controller, and it was the main thing to make me not want to buy one. I f I get one cheap I'll take it but I wont go outta my way to get one (Kinda like how the Saturn for 0.99 fell into my lap) The genesis is the first system I bought with my own money, and I got it about a year before it died. Sonic 3 and Knuckles was the only real game I liked for it but its been remade many times aswell.

1. Psone
My first and favorite system. I remember getting it for christmas back in 1998ish. All the games I bought for it were fun, like crash, spyro, and cool boarders 2.

2. Ps2
My current console, have a large collection of games for it. I like sotc, sly cooper, katamari damacy, and burnout.

3. Game Cube
Super smash bros melee, mario kart, and others are great games. It was the console I got right after the psone so I thought the grahpics were amazing.

4. N64
I didn't get to play this much as it was my sister's, but I liked donkey kong 64, and super smash bros. My friend got the n64 later on so I got to play it whenever I went over to his house.

5. Game Boy Advanced
Meh, I don't have very many games for this, so I don't play this often. The only game I play is mario kart.

1. Super Nintendo Entertainment System- This ststem starded the term 'fun games'. You can't argue that a lot of the games were fun, nevertheless they made some new genres and steps. Also, I grew up with it, and can never get it naked.

2. Sony Plastation Entertainment System- All right, my whole life, well 4/6 of it had revolved around AUDIO CASSETTES. So, as a venture, we bought a CD player, but I was able to squirm in with cute eyes, and buy a Playstation...whose 2ndary feature was CD playing. NEVERTHELESS, this system started 3D gaming and got everyone ready for the next generation. It was a great era, and probably one of the best.

3. GAME BOY (1989 thingy)-NO EXPLANIATION IS NEEDED FOR THIS. LOOK at your GP2x/PSP/GP32/DS/whatever, and stare at it with penetrating eyes. If it wasn't for that, say buh-bye.

4. Sega Genesis- This system started the 16 bit era, and featured the first ACTUAL 16-bit Graphics Processor. I loved it, it was addictive, and it made a controller feel comftrable (you listening rectangle NEs thing boys thing something, boy thing, rectangle (you get the point))

5. NES- Again, why explain, it made games come back to life, but why is it '5'. One word...Friday the 13th: The game, basically all the crap games.

6. Virtual Boy- I dont know, the thing sucks, I just kinda like it.

7. XBOX- It made the next gen of OUR society a new challenge

8. Computers- Oooooh, the glory through ALL THE GOD FORSAKEN YEARS

9-10. Pong- Pongidy Pongidy Ping T-R-A-N-S-L-A-T-O-N ----------> 0000000000000000000000000000000000000000001! The one is the key to gaming

10. Xbox: Halo, Halo 2, Fable, GTA, Half Life 2, Burnout 3, Battlefield 2. Need I go on?

9. Gameboy (GBO): My neighbor's sister had one of these and I used to play the HECK out of it. I loved Super Mario: 7 Golded coins.

8. Nintendo DS: OK, so it's pretty recent but I love it. MarioKart, Animal Crossing, and Kirby.

7. Sega Genisis: I've never owned one but my neighber does and I played Mortal Kombat with him a lot. (Hmm maybe I could play it with him for winter-een-mas...)

6. Gameboy Advance/SP: I've owned the SP and my neighbor had the original and when we got together to play it we were always having pokemon fights.

5. Gamecube: I've owned one for the past three years and it can kick like a mule still. My grandfather went took me to buy it, so it'll always have a special place with me. Even though the most recent game played on it was RE4 a month ago.

4. N64: My parents bought one for me and my brother 6 years ago for Christmas and I still play Goldeneye on it.

3. SNES: I didn't own one until 2 two years ago but I still play it occasionally. My neighbors had one (wow I didn't own a thing!) and I played Super Mario World, Clay Fighters 2, Yoshi's Isnland, and Sunset Riders.

2. Gameboy Color: I love this handheld I do I really do. Love it to death.
