Cant desolder

I can't desolder the power supply rods on my N64. I think it's because my soldering iron is 15 watt. Even after holding it on the pice for 1 min it wouldn't melt so I couldn't suck it up with the desoldering braids. Is there any other way I could get them off. Im just trying to make the N64 top loading.

be careful not to over heat it, test it to make sure you didn't already. you need a more powerful iron for desoldering, at least 45w

it still turns on. So with a 45 watt iron would I have to be very fast?

not too fast that the solder doesn't melt but just don't let the N64 board get too hot

45W is absolute overkill, and you're likely to ruin something in the process using an iron that hot. A 30 watt iron with the proper tip should be more than enough to desolder the power connector. A screwdriver-shaped tip would probably be ideal since the connector terminals are pretty big, but the short pointed tips that come with most cheap irons should work too. Just position it so that as much of the tip as possible is in contact with the terminals.

dont even try to unsolder those, until you break the connector its a lot easyer then

you need some big wire cutters to get through those rods, but after you have the rods just bythemselves is easy unsoldering from there aslong as you have your trusty solder sucker by your side

just chop the plastic off so that way all the rods are indevidual(thats not spelled right) that way its eay to unsolder one at a time

Ive been trying but it feels like the whole plastic bit is gonna explode into a million pieces and damage something
