Stupid kids...

Ok one of the kids at school thinks he knows a lot about computers. And he thinks he knows a lot about Linux. So he downloads Edubuntu and installs it on... *drumroll*

Dell (IIRC)Inspiron
1.2 gig Celeron
128 MB RAM
40 gig HD
onboard graphics

THE THING RUNS LIKE TURD! It took me 5 minutes to boot Firefox on it!

All because "oh Windows XP was running slow".

Before it was running Service Pack 2 XP Pro.

See he's the kind of person who, to fix xomething, just kicks it a few times, rather than trying to solve the problem.

I bet he set up an 8 meg swap partition or something like that, to "free up more room for programs." (He's known for doing stupid crap like this.)

But I don't have any classes in that room, and next year it won't be my problem (unless the school hires me, as I plan on getting certified for PC service/repair). It just worries me because I'm supposed to "pass the torch" to him, because I'm doing most of the repairs to the PCs now.

And there's a Digital PC 5000, running Windows 2000 on a 3 gig drive, running like a snail. He doesn't know what the problem is. I do. People were running "Instant Music Downlaoder" or some other malware on it. I run some scrips I have as an admin in Safe Mode, run them again under every user name, and now it runs just fine.

Sorry I just wanted to vent.

Just so this isn't just another spammy thread everyone ignores, does anyone else have "stupid people" stories? (people they interact with, not just what they read off the internet or see on Dr. Phil)

Yah, I know a couple people that are like that. Annoys me to no end, especially since they always think they're right; they can't be made to think otherwise.

Just wanted to say how much I feel your pain... Can't really share any stories because I'm using my real name, but I'll think of a way to bring it up.

I really hate it when people act like they know what they're talking about and they don't. I would much rather spend my time with someone who knows nothing but it curious than someone who knows a lot but acts like he knows everything.

Oh well one time in the library I was on my laptop getting mad because I left some document on my home compuer and some kid like that was like "Just hack[sic] into it." GRR I calmly asked how I would go about "hacking" into a computer of which I wouldn't know even the ip address if it was ON. [sigh]

Oh i have way too many experiences with that kind of thing...

fortunately i don't have to deal with many stupid kids away from home but my one of my little brothers is the most irritating person ever! he's too stupid to actually do anything (other thanplay gameboy and starcraft) but he's always bragging about how smart he is and says he's smarter than me and his only comeback to anything said against him is "that's what you think." stupid kids suck

What really pisses me off is the people in my school who think they are always right. For example I was telling some people you can run music off of a USB thumb drive on your 360 behind games, and this one guy comes up and says I lieing, and were in the computer lab so I show him a tutorial on how to run the music, exactly how i'm telling everyone else how to do it and he still says i'm lieing and that I made the website to fool them...

Man some people just really hate being wrong

My brother thinks he knows every thinks about computers couse he used computers in school in the early 90's, he even broke my DVD drive by pushing the button to open button hard and Fast, on one of my old PCs.

I run ubuntu on my fastest pc (450mhz), and it runs fairly good. The base version of FF that comes with it is bad though, so I upgraded to 1.5

It's stories like that make me glad I don't hang around people that think they know computers. When people don't even know something simple like the run command "msconfig" then they don't know crap. I'm just very glad that the close friends I have do know how to fix computer, it's only an issue when one asks me for the tool(s) to do the fixing.

Ya, most of my actual friends tend to make me fix there computers for them. Atleast they have the dignity to admit they know very little about computers. People who THINK they know stuff are vary dangerous, I've had friends try and do things they can't and end up eraseing there hard drives

What I hate even more is when people think I'm some kind of genius (which I am most certainly not) because I can do the simplest things in Windows and the way they're always asking me to explain to them how I did it to the point where I feel like sceaming: DO YOU THINK WAS BORN WITH THE ABILITY TO USE WINDOWS!? JUST READ THE BLOODY MANUAL LIKE I HAD TO, IT'S BUILT IN RIGHT THERE! SEE THE GIANT BUTTON MARKED HELP!

I hate those kids who think that they know more than you, but when it's time to prove it, they either make up excuses or just say: "I don't want to, maybe later." And then when 'later' comes around: "I said maybe!"
