Can I do this?

Hi guys,

I'm wondering if I should be able to make the screw holes that hold the LCD on the motherboard of my Psone screen a little bigger so that I can use new screws / nuts to secure it for my portable? Thanks.

I would assume you could, as long as it doesn't get in the way of any traces.

PSone screens are only double sided (no hidden traces) so if you don't see any traces that would get in the way if you make the holes bigger it should work

jeff, if you're referring to the PCB-board (green) go for it. As long as you don't cut any traces while drilling the holes out. Some extra holes in the ground-plane (the parts of the board with a lot of copper act as one huge ground trace) wouldn't hurt it.

BUT! if you're referring to the actual LCD-Module (the iron thing with the screen-matrix in it), DON'T! (sorry for screaming)

I made this mistake and ended up cracking open the iron enclosure. Damage was three broken traces. I had to wire them back up from a different place on the module. It was a pain to solder to the traces as they are less than a millimeter thick/wide. Also, when drilling out anyway, dust gets inside the module from the pcb-material you're scraping/drilling. It might short out because of loose copper particles touching things they are not supposed to touch.

Basically, I'm hoping you mean the green board.
