Using the Panasonic Q disc tray

Post by gizmo255 »

Does anyone have pictures of the internals of the Panasonic Q. I'm thinking about picking up a non functioning Q if I could somehow use the disc/laser assembly from the Q and use it with the GCN. I can't find where it was posted but somewhere in here there was a link to a GCp concept that looked like a GBA SP and had a front loading CD mechanism, but I want to build mine along those lines. Now I just need to find a cheap non functioning Q

Matt

edit: I just found some pictures! :D I'll update if I find out anything else useful

edit2: So far it looks like the DVD drive goes through the Panasonic DVD motherboard first :( I might look into modifying my original GC laser assembly instead

the panasonic reader would probably just use more power and that design is kinda impractical for a GCp unless you want it to be huge :P
but if you want it to be kinda like a laptop i guess it would be able to have a big battery too

it doesnt look compatable with the GCN...but if you think it is, go ahead and proove me wrong :P

EDIT: actually after looking over it somemore, it does look like it would be compatable........but why not try and portablelize the Q itself? Challenging, but it would be cool.

Yeah, I really had no interest in trying to make a portable out of the Q, I really just wanted to see how possible it would be to have a sliding tray so that the disc is inside the system. I know i could do some sort of lid for it, but I wasn't sure if the sliding mechanism might be more slim than the GCN laser.
