I found that after taking the cap off, the image was lacking a lot of color. I put it back on and there was TONS more color, almost too much! You may want to try it with or without, and see what suits your needs better. Having it off completely wont hurt anything though, its the same as having only one side connected, no current gets through.Harshboy wrote:

It doesn't say on the datasheet that it has a dedicated S-Video mode, only that it ACCEPTS Y/C inputs....but maybe it's only capable out OUTPUTING Component, RGB, and Composite..... :/

close, but no cigar.
I found some links directing me to a perticualr site, none of them hit bang on what I wanted, but I still explored the site. I found this page-- http://www.epanorama.net/links/videochips.html and started looking through the columns for something that sounded good. I noticed repetative entrys in the "Analogue video encoders" portion (the AD72x series). Rather intrigued by this I decided to check out the site. After just a few clicks of the mouse, I found myself on this lovely page-- http://www.analog.com/en/subCat/0,2879, ... 5F,00.html
and I exclaimed to myself "It's a gold mine!"
Now I was looking for a datasheet for any of the RGB outputting IC's for some example circuits. Finding one quickly, for a split second I thought my journey was finaly over! But alas, the "datasheet" was so crappy--it barely had anything!

Anyways, Ive done some work on my screen. no luck getting it into Compinent mode, I need a logic anylizer which I just have no money for. No matter how elaborate my home made one is, it just doesnt do the job.
As for the S-Video, Im pretty sure it muxes the Y/C channels internally no matter what. I have done everything I could think of to try and isolate them, and nothing worked. I also looked at the flowcharts of the screen/chips and it does seem that the Y/C do hit a muxer internally.
Spike - Word of advice, Analod Devices give out samples of their stock, get a bunch of stuff. I was able to get a CRAPLOAD of AD742 ICs to make RGB to Composite/Svideo converters. I wouldnt reccomend taking a Y/C signal and demuxing it into a VGA. Think of a video signal like a modem connection. You only have so much bandwith going down the line. S-Video splits the signal into 2 seperate streams, allowing more data flow, like having 2 modems. VGA uses 5, Reg, green, blue, H-Sync, and V-Sync. Nothing you do can make a Luma/Chroma signal look any better than it allready is. Its like having a fast 3meg DSL/ connection, but downloading from a server that can only send at 500k... get the point? There is only so much "data" for the S-Video, and if you split it into RGB/VGA, its still only going to have that limted amount of "video data" Read this if this is still all hazy and confusing: http://atarilabs.com/meat/2000/1201_videoprimer.shtml

ahhh this post keeps haunting me...lol.
Yeah, I think the only way to unmix the S-Video internally is to feed it the proper logic levels via the I2C bus and the AN Samsung chip which no one has a datasheet for. I don't think this or Component will ever happen on the PSOne screen and have thus given up working on this :(
