Can I replace the controller joystick?

I was wondering if I could replace the n64 controllers joystick with one of a 3rd party xbox controller.

Unless the 3rd party xbox controller uses the leds instead of pots for the joystick, no.

If you were to mod one of the 3rd party N64 controllers then yes you can. I have a 3rd party one so I know that it uses two pots instead of the LED thing.

did yours have the standard chip? and what brand controller was it? I really don't like the standard joystick, and I have two xbox joysticks, so it would work perfectly for my new n64p.

I cant remember the exact name, it looked inlongated, didnt have the prong look to it. As for the standard chip not the manufaturer had the circuitry etched on and covered with epoxy (think NOAC) but the leads to the joy stick are easy to get to.
