mp3 converter

when i download music online it is always an m3u file.the only problem is my mp3 player only runs wma and mp3 so is there a way to convert this music.and i would like to do this for free.but i might buy cheap software.

m3u files are just playlists, they contain nothing but filenames. Open one up with Notepad and see if you can find some URLs in it.

If Windows Media Player will open them, and you have another computer nearby (or one you can move), you can use a cheap cable from Radio Shack to convert the music in sort of convoluted way.

1. Obtain a 1/8" male to 1/8" male miniplug cable (<a href="http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... ly">Here's one at Rat Shack</a>) and connect it between the LINE OUT of the playing computer and the LINE IN of the recording computer

2. Download and install Audacity onto the recording computer if it does not have it already. (Windows Sound Recorder will not work for this purpouse. Besides it sucks.

)

3. Play the music file on the playing computer while recording on the recording computer. On the recorder, export as an MP3. (requires extra extension for Audacity; read their site)

You might be able to do this with a lone PC, but it may cause horrendous feedback. I haven't tried it on a single machine, only between 2 computers.

yes, Notepad. The files in question are just playlists, so the locations of the files should show up in them. But I'm not too sure they're in basic ASCII coding.

um that sounds like it would be crapy sound quality sceince i only have one computer...........in the basment.

use a sound thing (like samsung music studio) to convert it to an mp3

Just make (or find) a program that will take m3u files and download the files linked from them. I wrote one in php awhile ago (you need to have your pc running as a server or have php-cgi installed though)
