Yep that's Kenin Horton's. His Atari is quite difficalt as you he custom wired everything together. You can do what he did but ofcourse you'd have to download the schematics and then translate them into a wiring setup.

We're not techical enough. Really this guy rebuilt an Atari 5200, built a device to send NES roms to the NES, and handwired up an NOAC. He goes nuts on hardware hacks.

No Gannon has an actuall PCB with traces and layout for the compoinets. Kevin Horton used a perf board. It has copper around each hole but he connented each pin or connection by making traces out of solder or using wire.shmagoogin77 wrote:gannon isnt your PCB similar to that??

I was gonna try making a multicart with LED numbers on the front to tell you which game is selected (I hate dipswitches!) Not too difficult either, just need 2x 4bit binary counters, 2x 4bit binary to 7 segment LED and two LED displays.
BUT..... Wouldn't it be cool to make a 512 in 1 games system (or similar) using a VCS with woodgrain and a Nixie tube display like that on the front to tell you which game is selected?! Gonna be a bit more complicated as Nixies need at least 150 Volts DC to work but what the hey, life's not easy

I am certain I could make my own digital clock easily enough, but not so sure about the alarm system. If I refreshed my memory on how digital comparator circuits worked though, maybe I could. I wouldn't mess with neons though. I'd use LEDs.

it's a bit like saying why play an Atari when it's easier to get games for a PC or PS2? Or why drive an old VW Bug (my other hobby!) when you can get a VW Golf easier? I like old quirky stuff! And I like to be different too.
Power to drive neons is pretty easy to get anyway. Those electro-luminescent glow wire things that people decorate their XBOX, PC, car etc with - the driver unit chucks out about 110 volts AC, stick a bridge rectifier on it and you have summat like 220 volts peak to peak, get a suitable resistor and there you have 150 volts DC. Best thing of all is the driver units only need about 3-5 volts to run, like what the Atari has at your disposal!
If you're scared of using neons though, how about an edge-lit display like this:

Doddle to make too. Just get some plastic like from a CD case, chop it down and drill the numbers with a PCB drill. Stick some bright LEDs in the bottom or top and there ya go. Best of all, if your circuit is using a BCD to 7 segment decoder to drive the display, just replace it with a BCD to decimal display to drive it.
