Desoldering Question

Post by x24 »

I just got a new desoldering iron from 'sourceshack' so i can get back to work at removing stuff from my n64 board. I gor the rest of the controller ports removed then I moved on to trying to remove some extra little metal fragments from the holes around the av out plug..

My question is.. could I just solder the wires from my hip gear screen to the metal pins that I couldnt get out??

I hope so cause I'll probably have my hipgear attached to my n64 by the end of the week..

and is the Y like object at the other end used for anything?? i probably attach a heatsink to it dont I?

the metal thing, as far as i know, is just to solder it down to a board, so it lies flat and dosent move. you can cut it off it you want. these things shouldnt get very hot at all, and there should be no need to sink it.

also you should probably have a cap on the input too

ok after reading the 'howwhateverstuffworks.com' site about capasitors.. I realized I still dont understand why I need them..

I also dont understand: Do i need a capacitor with at least 100uf for it or right on? I went to thesourceshack and couldnt find any that were right on.

btw daguuy, according to the pdf, you got them reversed.. according to it its 1-in/2-grnd/3-out

caps can be used to stablize voltages...if something goes under the required voltage for a second, the cap will be charged at the right voltage and ready to output the right voltage until the regular voltage source is normal again. also, I know they're sometimes used in clock circuits, but that doesn't apply here :P.
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

This is from Search
Where a capacitor is used to decouple a circuit, the effect is to "smooth out ripples". Any ripples, waves or pulses of current are passed to ground while d.c. flows smoothly.

A decoupling capacitor is represented like this

I think that puts it extremely well in simple terms even I can understand!

ok, so its probably used because of the dropping voltage on a rechargable battery right?

could anyone answer my other question:
