Ok,

My Laptop, i got it for free couse it was broken, i fixed it. the Previous owner said there was a virus, i thought i got rid of it with AVG apperntly i didnt couse, when my computer has been on for over an hour it gets very sluggish.

could it be the Virus or could it be the fact that its old (a little less than 2 years old)

Nuke it from orbit (format and reinstall), it's the only way to be sure.

I'd do the standard mantiance, like defrage the hard drive (or just replace). If your still worried about the virus even after another virus scan from a different program, you can just format the hard drive... a couple times. Then start off clean and fresh.

there is a problem with reformating

I dont have a Xindows XP install disc nor a CD or DVD drive (Not even floppy)

Unless someone got me a Disc Image of the XP install disc and i could run the installation off my ipod or something

Get a spyware remover. I use PestPatrol, but that costs a bit. ($20? Don't recall ATM.) There are free spyware removers on the net. You just have to look.

If you think the problem is overheating, I wouldn't doubt it for a second. My old (1998 I think) Acer computer started messing up on me a while back. Every time I tried to run a program that was even slightly CPU intensive, it would quit. The program would just "close".

This went on for a while, then my stepfather suggested that it might be dust. Me, knowing that my stepfather knew nothing about computers compared to me, thought to myself, "Yeah... right. Like dust would be the cause..." We took the side off, and found huge masses of dust inside it. So, we vacuumed the inside of it, to get the larger clumps of dust out, then blew the remainder of the dust out with a Kirby G5, and everything has been running fine ever sence.

Im running Spybot and i found lots a Spyware wit it. so now will someone give me a Windows XP disc?

my laptop only has 256 megs of ram. its has a good processor (celeron 2ghz), but the page hits to its really slow (4200 rpm) hard drive really hurt it. its sluggish to begin with and only gets worse as programs start to open. how much ram do you have?

Here's what I usually do to purge a computer. I'd recommend downloading all the files first and then run them in case some crudware was causing problems with the network configuration.

Download and run HiJackThis and post the log file here so we can see how bad the damage is (if anything). While you're there you might as well download CoolWebShredder to clean any parts of CoolWebSearch that may be left behind.

Download the zip file, extract it, run RunThis.bat and follow the instructions.

I use this (as the kids say) a "pwnage" program. It hunts down and destroys a huge list of malware files, and runs the Disk Cleanup wizard to purge the rest of the temporary data. It will also have the wizard purge IE's temporary internet files, cookies, and empty the recycle bin.

After you run it, run msconfig and disable stuff that looks suspicous, but leave some things on like AVG or other utilities you use.

If you're having network connection problems after you remove malware (cannot connect to internet, won't see network devices, etc...) run WinSockFix. It will back up the current settings from the registry, and then write the Windows defaults back. If it doesn't work you can always restore from the backup, so it's pretty safe to use.

EDIT: and if the bottom of the laptop is getting that hot, you should open any access covers on the bottom and see if there is a ton of lint or dirt in there.

If your laptop bottoms is getting as hot as you say you might want to get one of those coolers that fits onto the bottom. I had one that worked on my PSX and worked wonders for long gameing sessions.
