I am now in my research phase of this thing. I am researching information about this. I am not ready to building it yet. I am designing models and such. I want to know a few questions

(1) What parts/materials do I need?
(2) Is there a way not to use cartidges?

Sounds like you want to make a very basic portable with no Cartridge slot. Ladyada's Game Grrl instructions are perfect for you!

http://www.ladyada.net/make/gamegrrl/make.html

Of course you don't have to follow everything exactly, but it's a good start.
