Apperently Scientists are close to breaking the light Barrior, and within 5 years they could be a ble to test a warp drive

thats a star trek website lol. sounds like a load of bull to me, physical objects can NOT exceed the speed of light, it isnt possible, something about the laws of physics EDIT: read a bit of the original thing. still sounds like bull but a bit more beliveable, warping spacetime is theoretacally possible more later

heh, surely you can't believe this?

as far as we know, nothing goes past the speed of light. period. no questions asked. we may be able to create a way to navigate the universe using wormholes, perhaps. there are probably more ways but off the top of my head I can't rememer them

Edit: oh, and quarks are what make up neutrons/protons...antimatter was created when the universe was (however way you may believe that to be

) and now there is obviously an abundance of matter and not much antimatter. when antimatter collides with matter, I think they just cancel each other out and don't exist anymore.

i know a bit about antimatter and stuff like that (yay scifi books!) when matter and antimatter collide (any matter at all) it annhiliates it doesnt just cease to exist it basically elplodes with a great deal of power (but since such small ammounts have ever been created the anhiliation is very small) places like CERN have made antimatter but in INSANELY small ammounts, they say that a gram of antimatter, when it anhilates would have the same destructive force as a on kiloton nuclear bomb

acually funny story...

i discussed this very topic in physics a few months past...

turns out they had actually suceeded in sending a beam of light through atank of super heated argon gas

the light went throgh past the speed of light... and broke the time barrier.

At least this is what i heard...

oh the anti matter subject was proposed by Einstein to expand the end of worm holes... don't remember much more than that...

I read about that in Angels & Demons by Dan Brown.

If you actualy read the article you will realize that they arn't talking about breaking the light barrior. What the engine will do is through intense magnetics phase shift a spacecraft into another dimention where the speed of light is faster than it is here.

This will allow them to phase shift out of this dimention, travel at or near the speed of light in the other dimention, witch is faster than here and arive sooner than light in this dimention. Then just phase shift back into this dimention.

Doing this means they "technicly" don't travel faster than the speed of light they just move to another dimention where the speed of light is faster.... if that made any sense what so ever

The warp engins in star trek work in the same basic way, they just don't change dimentions, instead they create a static warp bubble where the laws of physics don't apply. This then allows them to travel at up to 9.65 times the speed of light without technicly going that fast.

But seeing as there are infinate numbers of different dimensions how do they know where to go? Also suppose there is something in their path or they are destroyed in this other dimension?

Quite. BUT, in this "bubble" the craft would not move itself. Instead, the space behind the craft would contract, while the space infront of the craft would expand; space moved--pushing it, not the craft.

As far as I'm conserned the Star Trek storys arn't that great, I watch it for the science. And yes you are correct about the warp bubble. It folds the space infrount and behind it similar to how a wings gets lift, the air moves over the top of the wing slower than the bottom causeing lift. The space behind the enterprize expands and contracts infrount of it.
