FTP & ImageShack issues

I recently moved to a new web computer, and for some reason it's giving me this error when I try to connect to PoD to upload stuff:

A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.

So far I've tried disabling Windows Firewall, checking the port settings (21, same as my old PC), and checking permissions (SmartFTP can communicate with outside computers) It does log in, but it doesn't show the file directories. Just the error message.

And on a (probably) unrelated note, the Imageshack upload box isn't working. Whatever I put into the "upload from file" box, it tells me I need to select a file with the browse button, which I already did! VERY frustrating!

I'm at a loss here. Any ideas?

Did you mean port 12, is that a typo? Because FTP runs on TCP port 21.
There's a possible chance your ISP may have blocked that port... check around.

Imageshack hasn't worked for me all day! I think it's the site...as for the POD thing, i have no idea..

"port 12" was a typo. I meant "port 21". I doubt my ISP blocked the port.

Like I said, the problem comes after the login stuff, when it goes to port 4xxx. I think Windows Firewall is being a finster about it.

I asked my dad about it, because he runs SP2 on his work/telecommuting machine, and Windows Firewall blocked all the remote desktop and VPN stuff he needed. (I guess Win Firewall is very basic or something...) he said he had to toggle it on and off a couple times with reboots in between to get it to stop.

I'm going to use a site-license XP install disc later, becasue I just threw a Dell OEM copy on for now and I don't have the disc key for it. (my dad got it from the trash at work. They bought a fleet of Dells, imaged them with their own disc image and threw away the documentation and install disc.) It will be Service Pack 1a. Screw SP2. It just causes compatibility issues, and for a firewall I'll just install BlackICE or ZoneAlarm.

Come to think of it, maybe ImageShack stopped loading images today because of that Sober Worm.

Please, I am still having trouble with XP and FTP access. (this install is just XP Service pack 1a, no SP2.)

Yeah, try using another FTP client, or try another FTP server.

I doubt I can do that.

I can log in and everything, the problem really kicks in when it tries to open a connection on port 4xxxx on up. Very VERY frustrating!

EDIT: The Windows built-in FTP client connected, but it's kind of... primitive. I'll install ZoneAlarm an see if it will let me let SmartFTP through.

you can host images on my host(unlimited space and bandwidth) then just use the links to it.......

EDIT: Nevermind...........it wouldn't work.
