:!: Since I've finished the LED mod, and have yet to find a SNES mini :x or any other sytem to work on, :cry: I've been trying to change the regulators on my screen ( :idea: well, ONE regulator [the 5+ for the LED according to the book.]) and have yet to successfully get a proper picture out of it :?. I just wanted to know if I'm hooking the regulator up right, as it's a regulator in an IC casing (7 pins are ground).

I've been assuming :o that the circle on the chip is the little U in the diagram :arrow: :

Have fun soldering to the SOIC! I hope you realize that's surfacemount. What you should look for is the same thing in a DIP-8 package.

The rest of that, I didn't understand (SOIC? And what does a DIP-8 look like?)

SOIC stands for Small-Outline Integrated Circuit, and DIP is Dual Inline Package. They're just names for standard IC sizes. A DIP-8 (a DIP with 8 pins) is slightly larger than an SOIC-8, and it's also a through-hole part. SOICs aren't terribly small, and if you've got a steady hand you shouldn't have a problem soldering leads on to the pins. I believe that radioshack sells little prototyping boards set up for mounting individual ICs, but I don't remember what size will fit on them or whether or not its surface mount.

On the physical part, a little circle indicates pin 1 of the IC. And as for that specific IC, the slanted edge indicates the side that pin 1 is on (with the slanted edge facing you, pin 1 is on the left and pin 4 on the right).

edit: when you say 7 pins are ground, do you mean that you have 7 pins of that IC (UCC381) hooked up to ground? Only four of the pins on that should be connected directly to ground...
