I haven't used it too much, and I've never used any alternatives, but I have used my cousin's computer a little bit, which has that media center program. I kinda like it, I must say. The whole thing is operable by the remote, making it ideal for HTPCs, and they make the whole thing nice and smooth. It's one of the few M$ products I like.

Why, because he's governed by normal human morals and decency? Stealing current Microsoft products is not cool, Kurt.Money??? So you're actually gonna buy it???
What a n00b:P
EDIT:
BTW, I used MCE for a while as well (until I sold that PC). I loved its super-polished look, though I never used the media center functionality.
LOL
You never know i downloaded my laptop OS before, I said buy for the sake of being legal or at least sounding legal. Anyway has anyone used the remote keyboard for Media Center (its a M$ product) and if so what did you think.
PS: I have almost got all the parts all i need now is the LowProfile Tv Tuner and MCE, the Remote, and probably the Keyboard.

Microsoft has done the samething they did with 98. XP Home=Windows 98, XP Pro=98 Plus, XP MCE=98 SE and Windows ME=Windows Server 2003.
I don't think Media Center Edition is anything special, it's added graphics and proprietary software. Really a version of Winodws that is more like OS X then the other XP.
I know that there are people that have even suggested using it for a Media Center, like a TVio. But when I compare it to something like MythTV, having software that will keep me from burning TV shows to a DVD or delete them after a set amount of time, I'm not interested.
And to further point this out. I don't know what happened recently but in the past Microsoft couldn't even get MCE sold as they do XP Pro. Some online stores will have a deal where you buy a new hard drive you can get MCE free. This really tells me that something is keeping it from getting out the door and I personally think that its rightly deserved.

Well i don't want to use Myth TV and with Windows MCE you can burn Video DVDs of your shows except like Starz Movies and Premium Channels but its the best thing for my purpose so im going to buy it (errr get it somehow).

I download operating systems all the time!
-SUSE
-DSL
-Ubuntu
-Gentoo
-Slax

I don't have a dedicated media center PC, though my old internet PC may become it once I migrate to the new one. Even then I'll just run Windows 2000 SP4.
(or maybe a media-center Linux distro...)
