I was reading Ben's book, it showed 2 steps to making the PS1 it was called the "Path of resistance" so I was thinking if I could get the slim version of the PS2, and just (this is the "path of resistance") Hook up a screen to it, and wire a battery pack to it? I am pretty sure its not this simple, but I was just wondering...

Thats how I'm going to make my NES portable; rubberband a psone screen and a controller to the back of my Famiclone. Should work good enough for me until Ben starts making the Micro productions.

As for the PS2 Path of Least Resistance, I wouldn't see why not.

It is. You won't make the most elegant portable doing that, but you'll be able to lug a PS2 around with you. If you do want PS2 portable similar to the hand-built PSp in Ben's book, I'd suggest checking out his "building of the PS2p" article.

lol just ordered my yobo, im doin the same thing but instead on rubberbanding on the outside, im putting it inside.

That would work to show an image....but to get a fully working picture and sound requires a lot more work with the PS2 and PSOne screen. Yes, you can run them from the same battery source, but the LCD requires an additional 40uH inductor to remove the vertical lines in RGB and you have to completely isolate the audio amp if you want steady sync when playing games. Most of this applies to RGB though, so if you settle from composite it's pretty easy.

P.S. I forgot to mention you will need to make an EXACTLY 8.3v~8.6v battery. This will require a regulator which you'll have to build (using an adjustable high-output). That would be the hardest part.
