Problems fixed, page 3 for finished pics and a vid

well usually brand new batteries are pretty discharged. most people would reccomend you charge them before you do anything with them. but since they run your camera they are probably good enough to run the screen too.
there shouldnt be a problem with usign a wire to jump two battery spaces, as long as its not ridiculously thin. but once again, if you can run a camera off them then its probably ok. if youre still in doubt, just put a multimeter to it and see what voltage you are getting. should be around 7.5v for a full charge, and 7.2v otherwise. less than 6.6v and they are dead.
youre sure you hooked the battery pack up correctly right? as in 'not backwards'? im also no screen expert, but dosent the psone screen take like 8.5v? even if the regs 'shouldnt' drop out until 7.2, try giving it seven batteries and see what happens. but make sure the screen is designed to take 8.5 before you do that.
and of course, you never said it was a psone screen. lol.
anyhow, be careful in there. as my brother has found out, its really easy to copulate crap up.

Yeah, we're using a PSOne screen. I'll charge the batteries overnight and see what happens. I don't have a multimeter though, so I'll have to get one at radio shack or something.
As for the voltage, the portable in benheck's book uses 6 rechargeable batteries, so I don't see why this can't :\
Edit: Here's a multimeter from the radio shack site. It's 19.99 CAD, does this look like it'll work? I'm never gonna use it again in my life, so I don't wanna spend my life savings on this. 2 left at my location.
Here's one for 24.99 CAD. Five bucks more for something that actually has a picture :\ Should I go the extra 5 dollars for this one? 1 left at my location.

Alright... my friend took his battery holder to one of his tech-savvy friends, and it turns out that the battery holders were manufactured incorrectly. He did a quick wire mod on it and it works now apparently. He said that it still takes a few seconds for the screen to light on, but that's fine I guess. I'm going over tomorrow afternoon to continue, and I'll try to take more pictures.
For the A/V connections: the pads on the screen board are quite small, and there's a lot of traces around it. I'm no pro at soldering so I don't wanna screw up. Would it be better just to cut the cables at the bottom and solder wires to those? I did that for the power, and it was a lot easier than it would have been if I were to solder right to the pads on the board. For the +5V to the SNES though, am I gonna have to solder a wire from a screen 7805, or is there a pin in the cable connectors that I can use too?

A lot of work got done today. Audio isn't working for some strange reason, but I haven't checked yet to see if the pins match, so I'll work on that. I got video up though, and I can run it on wall power, so I don't have to waste batteries now. Next step is to get audio working, Secure everything with hot glue and tape, then drill some holes for the wires and wrap it up.

Can anyone help me on the audio problem? I haven't checked too deeply yet if the pins all match. I soldered the 3 headphone pads on the screen together too, like it said so somewhere. And I'm sure that they're on correctly on the snes board.

My friend royally screwed himself over to, heh...
He first soldered multi-stranded wires to the A/V on the snes board, then hot glued it without trying, to realize they didn't work. So he ripped them all off, then realized he had the wrong pins going to the screen. So he fixed that, and video worked, but then the screen would turn off after a few seconds. He ripped everything off again, only to realize that he hadn't charged his batteries yet, so he tried wall power. Finally, he got his video up and running, but he also had no audio. But then he accidentally cut his power supply off the screen, so he has to open his screen up to fix it. Alas, he hot glued the screws down, so he can't get the screen back open :\
