Hi guys,
I've been doing some thinking. When I first started out portabilizing about six months ago, I started trying to make the 2600 project from the book. It wasn't a complete failure, as I got to the point where I could see a game show up on my casio Ev680, before it got trashed.
Since then I've tried numerous other projects having various degrees of success (see below picture as an example).
http://img492.imageshack.us/img492/5082/img07547gw.jpg (I've also got a "How to" up on PoD for a psone battery mod).
But I've been thinking that I really want, what I started out trying to make a portable 2600.
So I'm going back to my roots, & I want to start planning a portable 2600 project. This is where I'm going to need some help from you guys.
I've got a couple of screen options available to me. Psone or hip gear. I'm leaning towards the hip hear for 2 reasons, 1 it is smaller & 2 doesn't require the led mod (Which I've done in the past, successfully)
I'm also thinking that I want to use the video mod from ben's book (it seems like the best documented), I think the updated mod looks a bit difficult for my skill level. Do you guys think that this would work with the hipgear?
Also for power I've got a couple of options, I've got a 7.2v RC battery or several AA 1.2 v 2200mAH Batteries. I'd like to use the double AA's, but I'm not sure if I can & how I would need to use them to power both the screen & the 2600. Please let me know what you guys think. I'll try to keep using this post as questions come up. Thanks guys.
(Please don't post if you don't have any helpfull to add, i.e you're just trying to run up your post count - Thanks.)

go with the Hip Gear screen. For some reason the original video mod (the one from the book) won't work with the PSone screen (and I think some Sony TVs too...)

What? What I've read is that the video mod that Ben has had (i.e. the free guide video mod) before didn't have a strong enough signal. However the new one in the book fixes that problem and lets you use the PSone screen.
Now if I'm wrong the Hip Screen would be the next best thing but I don't think I am.

I believe those will work. You need the 7.2V that outputs for the color potentiometer, and the 5V input line to the board.( I think 7.2V is sufficent for a 7805)
Im wondering: If you add a 9.6V RC battery (those thin ones) Into the potentiometer that you re-attach, would that be fine, or what voltage would this thing optimally run from? I have one and it would save a little trouble if it did.
