man i work at a super store thats just a glorified convenent store. there are no Nintendo DS units for sale. there are only 2 units left and are allreddy paid for. the DS is doing fine mr. also the day i bought mine i watched people cary cart loads of DS and cubes out of a bussy wall mart. they where sold out in an hour, and they dont preorder.
I was at K-Mart last night and they had about 20 ds units sitting on the shelves. Only one game tho, super mario ds. Then again, this may not be a fair assesment. Everyone in this town goes to Walmart and I have not seen any ds units or ds games at walmart. I have found that kmart is the place to go get something new. i found the GBAsp at the big k 3 days before it was supposed to be released. didn't see one at wally world until 3 months after it was released.

Hey, I have been visiting for quite a while, and I thought I would put in my 2 cents...
I just get offended when people claim that Nintendo's games are for kids. Sure, many of the games are cartoony, but it is the challenge in the game that really matters (to me at least). My family recently visited and my 9 year old cousin brought over Pikmin. I would think most poeple would dismiss Pikmin as a "kids game" thus going along with the stereotype that all Nintendo does is make kids games. This is funny to me though because my cousin could not play this game at all. For those of you that have not played it before, Pikmin is a timed game where the player tries to collect a certain number of items in 30 days. My cousin was on his 10th day and had collected 2 out of 31 or so items. It seems that the game was too challenging for him. What I am trying to say is that Nintendo may make games that have a childlike appeal as far as appearance goes, but gameplay wise many of their games cannot be fully completed by a kid or even fully enjoyed because of the challenge.
I could think of many other Game Cube only games that are very challenging. The Rogue squadron series, Ikaruga, the Metroid series, and the Wind Waker could take a kid a long time to play through. Even Mario Kart Double Dash!!, a very "cute" game, is very difficult when it comes to unlocking all the karts and racers.
Bottom Line: It is the challenge that makes the game for an older audience, not the cute graphics.

I'm thinking about getting the ds but it does sound a little childish is the only thing. If someone made a real portable xbox that wasn't huge it would be great. But on topic. the ds is still got cool games. Nintendo really needs to go for a different group. Little kids buy it and hate it. While adults are ashamed to get it. They need to go back towards the N64. Little kids just don't like video games that are so challeneging. Either make some new games for little kids or go back to the way of the N64 the BEST system ever.
You don't have to worry about the world ending tomorrow, it's already tomorrow in Australia

I LOVED the N64....
If only for Bond and Perfect Dark.... but I still logged HOURS, DAYS... WEEKS....
Here's the thing - the GBA became the "machine to remake SNES games" and now the DS seems to be the "thing to remake N64 games".
The problem I have with remakes is that it's jusy a cash-flow excuse to boost shares with minimal creative input. The money saved on developing a NEW Mario game is accentuated by the profits of the Mario 64DS sales which offsets the R&D of the DS which also creates a new "revenue stream" for Nintendo.
I mean, honestly. How many new, MUST HAVE games are we gonna see for the DS? My money is on REHASH after REHASH of N64-level titles we've already seen before. And as long as people keep buying them and keeping the "Big N's" chips afloat, they'll keep treading water.
Just like Atari did. Before THEY DIED!

HAH! I forgot I had created a login!
....*ahem*
Granted, they did spit out quite a few remakes, but I think you are overlooking some great original games that would make the system worth buying. The Golden Sun series, Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission (while based on Met 1, zero mission is a original game) , Mario Kart, Zelda Minish Cap, Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, and several others... and that is just from Nintendo. One thing I do think they should have done was create a new Mario platformer to go along with the remakes.
Also, before you bash the DS's library it has only been out for a few weeks. Already there are several titles like Metroid Prime: Hunters, Animal Crossing DS, a new Super Mario Bros., Wario Ware Touched! a New Castlevania, DS Wars, Viewtiful Joe, and others...
Anyway, I respect your opinion, it is just that I feel it is too early to write off the DS as some sort of "machine" to remake old titles. I guess it is just about what kind of games you enjoy. Nintendo has not yet dissappointed me and I guess what really matters is that I play what I find the most entertaining.

By "machine to remake SNES games" do you mean do you mean from Nintendo's viewpoint or for game developers in general?benheckc wrote: Here's the thing - the GBA became the "machine to remake SNES games" and now the DS seems to be the "thing to remake N64 games".

Punchinello you are pretty much just confirming the fact that Nintendo is the king of remakes. Of the games you mentioned for the GBA three of them were remakes, and two of them already spawned sequels on the GBA. Also all the DS games you mentioned are not originally franchises. I have to agree with Ben and others Nintendo is just rehashing the same thing again and again. I'm not saying I dislike their games, I'm just saying that they really arn't the originally company everyone thinks they are.

I guess I'll post up my opinion on this......
Anyway I agree somewhat with Ben that many Nintendo games are rehashes, although that's not necessarily a bad thing. Who didn't love Super Mario 64? (well, maybe some people didn't but most N64 fans did) Also, while the GBA does serve as a "machine" for SNES games, it also serves as a "machine" for new games. like Punichello said there's Advance Wars, Golden Sun, the three Castlevania games (Aria of Sorrow was a great game, IMO), warioWare, Final Fantasy Tactis Advance, Boktai (which I have to admit was a pretty decent game and the use of solar power was cool), and many more original games. Also, some of the games that are based off the franchises on GBA are different games than the originals they are simialr to. The Castlevania games were all original (I think...) and there was Metroid Fusion, which was a fun metroid game.
As for the DS, so far the only rehash is Super Mario 64, which is a great game. There's Madden out, a couple racing games, and that Feel the Magic game which looks like it has some cool uses with the DS's features. Right now I believe it is much to early to decide if the DS is just a machine to remake N64 games.
Now for the Gamecube. Many games are like upgraded versions of the N64 tites, but they are still excellent games and on top of that there are original games. Windwaker was a decent Zelda game, although one coming out next year looks better. Metroid Prime 1 and 2 are whole dfferent Metroids, so even if it's still under the same name, and feels like Metroid, the gameplay is very different. Super ario Sunshine was a beautiful game with fun gameplay, altough that one was one which had more of the same from Super Mario 64. As for original games, there's the Goldeney game, which was kind of a rehash from Goldeneye 64 but it looks to me like a whole new game. Other original titles are Animal Crossing, Advance Wars coming out soon, and many others from third party developers.
I also believe that many games today are too simialr to one another. Shtting games have become very simialr, the only diffrence really is the quality of the game, not the actual gameplay. Many racing games are simialr too, although Need for Speed underground, PGR2, and GT4 all are incredile (I'm pretty sure GT4 will be good).
I could probably write more on the subject but I mean just look at all that I've written!!!!!!! quite frankly I'm sck of writing now, so I'll just leave it there......just my humble thoughts and opinions........

Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!
