Computer replacement

Post by Nicholai »

Decided to gather up the spare parts I had been collecting and managed to make a computer about 2x better than my old one.

Anyhow old specs:
AMD Athlon 2400+ processor
20 gig hard drive
512 mb of SDRAM
32mb video card
and some motherboard I found dumpster diving

New specs:
AMD Athlon 3000+
60 gig hard drive
754 mb of DDR RAM (-128 for onboard video)
128 mb onboard video
K7N2gm-v motherboard

That's looking pretty good! Aren't you going to atleast put a decent video card on it though?

But make sure you keep Windows, and games on the newer\faster harddrive.

Here in Canada after some research I can conclude that if you get a 200 gig drive it's only gonna be about $50-$60 more than a 60GB drive. Plus now with games getting put on DVD and even multiple DVDs you can expect games to start being in the 7-8 gigabye range per game .My FFXI was 5 gigs for the game plus 5 more gigs for the 2 expantions and that was 2 years ago and my City of Villans game is 4 gigs. Thats 15 gigs in 2 games there, not to mention 2 gigs with Halo for PC and about 9 or 10 gigs with my GFX software.

Not trying to get you to buy a biger drive, just stressing the point that times are changeing and your gonna need more and more room to store your data, so 60 or 80 gigs might not be good enugh, my games and GFX software would take up 50% of your 60 gig HD, add windows on there and some other esential software and your gonna find yourself with only 15 gigs or so to spare.

You should say 3.0 ghz, not 3000 mhz. It's like saying 12 inches instead of 1 foot.
Shhh! I'm not officially back yet.

Fantastic, it's still a pain in the butt for everyone else. It's as bad as those mile wide ones.
