Oh crap

I was fiddling around with my nesp today and I ended up soldeirng my audio and 5v connections since they seemed a little loose. After I finished the job, I turned it on and it worked fine..except my battery was low so the colors on the lcd screen were washed out. So then I try my 12v dc adaptor, and the colors on the NES were back to normal. After I finished playing a good ole game of super mario bros., david letterman was on and of coarse I had to watch it

After it was over I decided to turn it back on to play my nesp a little more...and now it has a delay when I hit the power switch and the screen shows up with white static and shuts off. I'm hoping something is just loose because I couldn't have fried my nes...so I'm narrowing it down to one of my grounds coming loose or the curse of the david letterman show. Also, I checked for any little solder balls on my nes board, but couldn't find anything. *Sigh* I hope its nothing too serious...any ideas of what I should check out if its not a ground problem?

I just used my multimeter and I only got 6.5v on the 7805 and 4.55v on the connection to 5v on the rf modulator. Right now I'm concerned with upping the 6.5v to at least 9.6v (the same voltage as my battery) If anyone knows where a good spot to look first is...please tell me. I'll be working on it today, and tell you if I got any good news.

er, if it's only 6.5V at the input of the 7805, then that's not enough...it's gotta be at least 7.2V (and less than 36V!

Well I know that...thats why I'm trying to figure out how to raise the voltage from the 7805...I can't find the problem...all the grounds seem sturdy. Everything has been electric tapeified so the chances of getting a short are very slim. Ah I'm so stumped at the moment.
EDIT: Oh yeah and the power going to my screen is also only around 6.75v..thats why the screen turns on for a second and shuts off.

it must be the battery or ac adapter that you're using. check the ac adapter and then try it again.

The thing is, its not...I've been using the battery for a good month. It worked fine...I used the 5 hour charger that came with it to charge it up all the way. I've even tried the DC adaptor which is 12v (well yesterday I did) and it wont work. I will test that out with the multimeter to see if I get a different reading. If its over the 6.5v then I can rule out it being a power problem and that I'm just getting a short.

EDIT: I've used the DC adaptor before and it does work with it...the power is 1500mA which is enough to run the NES with the unmodded PSone screen. Now that I think about it...do you think my backlight just went and caused a short in the Psone screen? Its just a thought really...I wouldn't know since I'm not an expert at electronics.

I just tested it out with the DC adaptor and I'm still getting 6.75v! I don't even know how this is possible. Well I'm pretty sure that rules out having a short.

It's odd that the 7805 won't work with 6.75V for you. I used a 6V battery and a 7805 to power my NOAC in my NESp, and it works fine to this day. It must be your battery (I would guess. I only skimmed through)

Well my portable uses the original NES board (not a NOAC) and I already tried the battery AND the DC adaptor. The screen requires 7.2v to run...and I didn't led mod it either. The problem is that even with my 12v 1500mA adaptor...I still apparently get only 6.75v. Would it seem like I shorted out something? Or possibly my screen is bad? I have all the boards wired correctly...all the grounds are connected. Could it possibly be a bad 7805? (I wouldn't think so since im getting power into it) Ugh...its a real mystery to me.

Sorry for the double post...but I also want to mention that before I knew that something was wrong with my NESp and plugged in the DC adaptor, that when I plugged it in and looked at the screen for a split second I thought I saw it looked like as if the screen turned off (I never had the switch on) and then the problem occured. I didn't think much of it until now...I don't know if that really helps at all.
