I have a Smsung DVD drive...the motor doesn't work, but its fixable. If you want i can sell it.

$80 is the worst Case scenario, but i dont have a Credit or Debit card, i guess a new Xbox for $150 or searching forever for a 360 for $300-$400

the other week some friend of my brothers gave me his xbox to try to fix. it too was experiencing something that could be described as crunching or grinding.

inside the dvd drive, the laser assembly rides on two metal rails. it has a metal arm sticking out of it that grabs a worm gear, and a stepping motor drives this gear to slide the laser up and down underneath the disc. the arm in this particular case was kind of loose, and when the motor tried to "zip" the laser quickly from one spot to another. it spun so fast that the teeth that the laser carraige was using to grab onto the gear slipped, and the laser only moved a little. the drive was too dumb to just spin the motor slower, instead it spun really fast 5 or 10 times to slowly inch the laser to where it wanted it...

anyhow i just had to bend the metal arm thingy down a bit so it grabbed the worm gear better...

perhaps you have the same problem.

That sounds like a good reason to tear the thing apart.
