Audio & video seperation

So does anyone know how to get the audio off of a video file? I am going to quebec for a while and dont want to take the video (comedy routine) because it eats batteries. Thanks

As long as you can open the file in Quicktime AND you have QuickTime Pro:

Open the file in QuickTime, and export the audio from there. (Save As -> Sound to WAV or MP3)

1. If it's AVI, open it with Virtual Dub Mod. And extract the audio (File>Save as WAV, or something like that).

2. If it's ASF open it with Virtual Dub 1.3c (Later versions dropped support).

3. If it's MPEG 1\2, open it with Virtual Dub Mod.

As for WMV, I don't know any editors that can do that. Maybe Windows Media Encoder has some little feature. There are however tons of WMV -> AVI converters here:

So pick which one looks best, encode, then let Virtual Dub Mod do the rest.

Same goes with Real, try one of the official encoding programs. There is however a program called Tinra, which will convert the Real Media file to AVI, then Virtual Dub Mod will do the rest.

Note that it still is just a DOS program; only with a GUI. So it does not accept very long filenames, shorten down the input and output names if you get any errors.

For Quicktime, same thing as with WMV and Real, just use an encoder to get it to AVI. The only one I currently know of that handles MOV files is Rad Video. There is a guide for it, here:
