Well you can use an external drive on a 360, so id get the 360, have a blast with that then save up and get the 500 gb drive. Then use the 500gb drive on the 360 so you can lissen to music on your 360.

But thats what I would do, I know if I got the 500gb HD I would get it home, transfer all my stuff to it and than stand up and say what the heck am I supost to do now, atleast with a 360 (if you can find one) your not gonna sit there and do nothing (unless your 360 freezes :P ).

It would be best to get the hard drive first. Reason I say that 360s are not expected to be restocked by March (Febuary at the earliest). So unless your going to pay more then what its worth or wait til there are more the hard drive is the best thing to get.

Don't get the 500gb hard drive. Get the 400 gig Western Digital. It beat the Hitachi 500gb in every test except one, NCQ, which the 400gig doesn't have.

Personally, I'd go get a DVD Dual Layer burner. Burn all your CD's onto DVD's. The burner will set you back $69.99 or so. Then I'd go buy a storage unit similar to what I got:

hooks to your PC via USB. Holds 75 CD's or DVD's or games. Software catalogs everything. When you want something you just search with the software and it'll pop that out for you. If you loan something out to a friend it'll remind you to get it back in a few days. You can also hook up to 128 of these together since it's USB.

Buy something else, like a new processor or more ram, those are always best!

If you're going to buy an external hard drive, buy the drive and case seperately. I've found it to be signifigantly cheaper.

Why do you need 500GB? I have a 200, and lots of downloaded TV, and Im at like 100GB give or take, isnt 500 a bit of overkill?

I've had a 100GB for about 3 days, and its 3/4 full right now. I've already filled up a 60gb, 75 gb, two 40gb, and an 80gb. After this one, I'm going to buy a few powered hubs, some drive enclosures, and a new internal HD. Then I'll make a RAID array of all the external ones, If possible. If not, oh well.
Shhh! I'm not officially back yet.
