Just put your XP system disk in your PC, it should pop up, then just hit reinstall windows. It will ask you to format the HD. Do that and than it will install and you will be good to go.

Well when you format it erases the entire hard drive, I think you could just borrow an external cd drive if it has usb, or just buy one, I bet you could get one pretty cheap

Sure you can mount the image, it wont do you any good you have the boot your computer off the CD. Do as HomicidalBarber suggested and either temp. install a CD-rom or barrow a USB/Firewire external and boot off the CD that way (if your computer supports USB/Firewire booting).

The other option you have is if you can get a XP hard drive you can use it to format the hard drive and then using a disk clonging software you can copy the files over to the formatted hard drive.

I would suggest doing the former as it involves a lot less work and less a headack.

P.S. Why are you doing "Spring Cleaning" in Winter?

You'll need either EvoX or linux on it to support FTP connections. It might be best to instsall FTP on two computers and do something like what Harshboy suggested. That way you could either try using the networked computer for its drive or you can simply transfer files.

I'll tell you hands down it would be best to simply get a CD-rom (they dirt cheap) and use it to install Windows XP. Or you can remove the hard drive and put it in a different computer, just be sure that as soon as you install move it Microsoft doesn't like you moving hard drives (they think your cloning the system).
