Dumpster diving for a semi-working laptop

Post by psychotic_mechanic »

I found the great-grandpappy of my laptop near a dumpster, it's a Toshiba Satellite 200CS. It asks for a system disk afetr it runs a memory check, but I don't have a windows 95 boot disk (I assume that's what it needs because it has windows 95 stickers on it) I did find windows 3.1 on floppies and a 98 boot disk while digging through my boxes of crap though.

How hard would it be to install Linux on this thing? I do have some ubuntu disks around here. It would be easier if it had a CD-ROM or USB, I guess it is time to hit up ebay. I guess I could also try to get windows running, does anyone know where I can get a 95 boot disk?

I'm trying to turn this into a toddler toy, my 13 month old likes to play with anything with buttons. (I woonder where he got that from) :)

The windows 95 stickers only mean that it originally shipped with Windows 95 installed. You can install just about any windows version on it, provided you can find drivers.

You could try Menuet, its a live floppy disk OS. I've been meaning to check it out, but this computer doesnt have a floppy, and I dont trust this old piece of crap I have thats fossilized in dust.

i just put windowsw 95 on my xbox...it works ok at decent speeds (when 95 was released anyway) If you want to learn how just do a google search. You must have the 95 install disk or a 95.iso to install.

Wine won't run windows, only some windows programs. If you want windows on your modded xbox (assuming you can't just install it), use VMWare
