confused about video mods with my atari!

Hello,

I have been working on an Atari Portable for three weeks now... everything is pretty much done, case and all..

about the video mod:

in bens book, the atari that he uses is one where you must wire the extra 9-pin chip... so the board looked different from the one that I was using

I thought maybe that video mod wiring might have been different for one where you did not have the chip so i checked out bens old site (the classicgaming.com/vcsp one) and the atari in the how-to there was like mine (with out the extra chip) and it seemed that the wiring for the video mod was a little different...

so I chose the one on the site..

Maybe it doesn't matter at all as long as you connect to the same pins on the stella chip?

Was that a bad decision? Is that video mod an outdated one? Do I risk frying my atari? Which Video mod would be the best to do out of the two, and does the 9-pin chip matter?

I know I am just a stupid noob that doesn't know crap about electronics, but help would be

You should be able to use his new video mod, and ignore the 9-pin chip. Personally, I used the old mod, and it works fine for me, but I'm too lazy to rewire my atari

I guess I didn't phrase what I was saying correctly tough, sorry...

what I was comparing was the video mod on ben's old site (classicgaming.com/vcsp) and the one in the book..

the video mod on his old site is wired a little differently then the one in the book, also an atari without the 9-pin chip is being used as an example..

the video mod in the book is using an atari with the extra 9-pin chip
and the wiring looks different...

I was wondering if I could still use the video mod in the book, even though I dont have the chip, or if it was better to use the video mod on the old site, although the latter might be out-dated...

I dont think I would do the newest mod,
I am to lazy to rewire my atari too Spongebuell

if you've already done the wiring, you may as well stick with that. I'm pretty sure either one would work, as the chip is just something for cleaning up the RF signal (IIRC) which is irrelevant with a composite mod. The main chips should still be the same and all. Ben just found a bit of a better mod that works with a PSOne screen (unlike the first mod) and gives a better picture, so he shared it with the world in his book.
