I've got an old N64 that's been orphaned due to lack of notice. I'm thinking, "Hey, instead of blowing a wad on the DS, I can simply protablize this N64!" So, I'm planning on diving into this endeavor shortly after Christmas break begins. I need to track down a few things, namely:

- An N64 controller (or two, maybe three)
- A powersource (a battery of particular wattage?)
- A screen (I have a GBA that's out-lived it's usefullness

)
- Some time, patience and a hammer.

Oh, and I almost forgot.

- A tool to remove those blasted proprietary fasteners!

Hope you guys can help me out!

EDIT: Y'know what, nevermind. I don't want to risk ruining this N64. I'll simply look around for some knowledge, info and such. That and some spare parts.

You can grab N64s for cheap, but be careful as they're fragile (especially the later ones.)

A good battery would be a 3300mah Ni-MH 6-cell R/C car battery (towerhobbies.com is much better than RadioShack for this)

For a screen, I'm sorry but your GBA screen won't work at all. It needs digital RGB in, which the GBA circuitry is designed to handle.
Most consoles (the n64 included) output composite video only. So, you'll need to find an LCD screen that has a RCA jack for video in.
Ben uses the PSone screen for good reason, and if you can find one, get it. It's a very good screen once you led-mod it.

For opening the N64 or snes or gamecube, get a 4.5 mm GameBit screwdriver. Try ebay for that.
Or, you can use my method where I filed sections out of copper tubing with a small chainsaw file, until the pattern matched the screw.

yes they are! you havent even taken the big heatsink off of yours! nor the shielding for that matter

Once you relocate the cartridge slot you'll understand

All it takes is a small fleck of solder in the wrong spot and it will fry the mobo.

i only fried one so far and so what if i didnt replace the heatsinks saves me time and energy

and the best battery would be a 10cell 1.2v 3300 mah batt pack= 12v 3300mah= lasts along time

well by not removing the shieiding you protect it from static electricity, therefore no frying, i ahve killed 3 of the damn things

You can use a GBA, but you have to keep the whole working unit in tact, and you need the AV adaptor.

there is a mod you can do to an n64 to get rgb out, forgot where I saw it search google for it.
