can use without heatsinks?

Hey was on radioshack earlier today and was wondering if this would be able to take the place of a heatsink for the chips: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... ab=support

i think it would save space, but would I have to keep on applying it to the chips after a few days/weeks/months. n e body know the answer to either of these questions?

that would work but you don't need to keep applying it over and over again
EDIT: nevermind, that's for holding on heatsinks, not replacing them. you still need a heatsink

That stuff is made to go between the chip and the heatsink, to aid thermal transfer. It's useless by itself.

You can find some low-profile heatsinks if you look around.

ok thanx... also when I was trying to take off the expansion slot I accidently broke off one of these things

i broke it off of the back right next to the expansion slot * not the expansion pack

if this is an important thing that makes the n64 not run then how am i supposed to get it back on?

The expansion slot is useless, but it might be for the cartridge connector, as they are attatched to each other. I couldn't tell you

something that looks like little thing you circled in that huge picture? its either a resistor or a cap. id guess that it was a cap just because theres more of them, so it has a higher probability...

anyhow, its hard to say if it was <i>crucial</i> to the operation of the '64 or not, but there is nothing on the board that does nothing. it has a purpose. if its still in one piece, just solder it back on, its not polarized or anything. if its broken in half... well. you gotta find yourself a broken n64 and steal a new (used) one from there.

it might boot without it, but be unstable, or slowly die over a period of months, or who knows.

Ok, the only problem is the soldering part. The thing is sooooo small and its gunna be a female of the dog species to put back on. o well. n e ways another question :
I'm not very technical with all the pc board jargen that u guys talk in so I don't know like about dc-dc cnoverters or n e thing like that, but wanted to know if I could keep the plugin that comes with the n64 and use it to charge a nintendo ds li ion battery. I figure that that battery powers two screens and two processors so must be pretty good. So could I run the port n64 off the ds battery and the original plugin?

DS batteries don't have very high capacity at all. you'll need something better (RC or DVD battery)

my sister has a ds it really last along time but the ds takes a lot less power

You need a DC-DC convertor or regulator to bring the voltage down to 3.3V for the 3.3V line. Your battery will have to be atleast 7.2V for the 12V line.

Now with wut 'nos_slived' sed, would two ds battery packs work to get above the 7.2 volts. (each ds battery is 3.7 volts) and then just put in a dc dc converter. is that all i need to do besides all the soldering of the other junk...?

lol. DS battery packs don't have enough power. You would need at least a 2000 mah batterie to get around 1-2 hours of play time. Ni-Cad rechargeables are cheap and wold work. (I like the 15 minute Ray-O-Vac ones. Sold at Wal-Mart for $3 a cell.) Or you could use 6+ DS batterie packs

lol ok...i think i have one last question for u guys ( thanx for putting up with me) I took out the rf adapter that is on the motherboard. 1) was that bad to do and am I screwed. If not then; 2) I want to see the video to see if that problem with that little 'cap' as *timmeh87* called them screwed up my system. I know which pin is the video pin but I don't know how to get it to the tv. I tried putting a video cable to it but it didn't work. I also tried to take one of the pins from the rf that i broke off, connect it to the video pin on the motherboard and then to one of the external rf adapters that hook up with coax cables, but nothing... does n e body have any ideas on if I'm screwed or not. Haven't gotten my lcd screen yet so can't test it on that....(can't promise that this will be my last question, so keep on looking on this forum cas I probably will be asking more questions and would like as much feedback on each question to give me more than one idea for each problem) thanx
