PcP possibly?

Post by madc0w »

my aunt called to wish my mom a happy birthday. My mom wasnt home so we were talking about chirstmas. She asks me what i want, and im not sure. So she asks if she wants her old laptop (she got a new one) of course i say yes. Its a win 200 dell, thats all i know. But i think im going make a PCP by attaching buttons to the side, and have the screen slide up, similar to a sidekick. Have linux and some emulators and older computer games (sims, sim city, starcraft, etc.) Hopefully it has built in wireless and a printer port (for controllers) so yeah. Just wanted to say this, i wouldnt have normally been on, but i think this will be cool. Just one question, can i use a joystick to control the mouse pointer? cause that would be nifty.

If it's anything under 700 mHz (which it prolly is) it more than likly won't have a Wireless card, but you can get USB and the other type of laptop thingy WIFI cards for dirt cheep.

My 700 hHz runs 90% of my PC games fine, so even if yours is 500 mhz it will still be able to run the sims and sim city and crap like that.

not sure yet, ill post when i find out.
and yeah, it probably wont have a wireless card, but i can probably buy one for cheap.
EDIT: For the buttons, i think i am going to use a third party ps2 controller i bought for 1 at a tag sale and network it through the printer port.

JoyToKey is a program that lets you map virtually any keyboard or mouse action to the buttons on a joystick, along with the analog sticks on a joystick.

ok, i have another question. I was thinking about maybe making my own controls (the ps2 analog stick is too hard to relocate!) is there anyway to attach buttons directly to the parallel port, and have them be recognised as a controller or something?

If you write your own driver, yes.

yeah, about that... well, yeah, doesnt really matter that much, i can probably relocate the analog stick if i try. Also, with the NES parallel port software, can you use two controllers, cause then i could use my superjoy controllers instead.

if there is a NES controlle parallel port driver, and the NES just uses buttons (no fancy serial data like those newfangled things theyre makin' these days..), then cant you just hook up to 8 buttons however you want, and use the NES driver?

Make a playstation one, so incredable easy and cheap, it takes 5 diodes and a paralell port, you can use NTpad or PSXpad to get it to work.

Ive got the link bookmarked a t home (not on my comp at the moment)

ill post it wen i get back

I hate to be a killjoy, but that's an awful lot of work when PC usb pads go for under $20 and you could easily tear one of those into pieces. Walmart seems to have a large selection of inexpensive ps2-looking pc pads.
