Bought some games;opinions? /Fix a scartched-to-heck CD

My folks and I went to the Old Navy plaza ($17 jeans...

). They went into Old Navy, I hit GameStop. Gamestop around here is CRAP! They have almost NOTHING! Most of what they have now is DVDs! But they have some darn good deals once in a while.

Especially on the PSX games that have been cluttering up their stores for years. This week they're having a Buy-2-get-1-free deal on all used games.

So anyways, here's my haul:

PS2:
Starsky & Hutch - $4.99
Stuntman - $4.99

PSX:
Need for Speed V Rally - FREE ($4.99 value, fell under B2G1F deal)
Ford Racing - $2.99 (In a green Funcoland sleeve

)
Twisted Metal III - $2.99
Ridge Racer Revolution - FREE ($2.99 value under B2G1F; K-A Rating

)

What do you think of these games? I've tried a couple and I think they're pretty good. Worth the prices I paid, no? (Especially since I almost bought Starsky and Hutch at Wally World for $20 a couple weeks ago

)

Add Massachusetts sales tax, and it came out to about $20. Not too shabby I guess. Time to break out the rubbing alcohol and goo-gone to remove the sticky label goop and clean the discs up. *wishes he had a Disc Doctor*

They aren't too bad but it's obvious V-Rally has been doctored.

I have no disc dostor, but Twisted Metal 3 was scratched all up. So I cleaned it with rubbing alcohol, and then used a tissue and some regular toothpaste to polish the CD. The mild abrasives in the paste polished out a surprising amount of the scratches. I had tried a very little bit of straight baking soda, but it made too many extra scratches. (sorta worked though.)

Long story short: bad CDs + Toothpaste usually =

I just use Rubbing Alcohol (DO NOT DRINK), and Toliet paper, But WARNING

The rubbing Alcohol can Take the Data off of the CD and make it Non useable (It can be used as a Coster, or door stop Still)

I've used rubbing alcohol (91% Isophryl) on CDs for years, some discs have been cleaned numerous times, with no ill effects.

The data is a series of pits in the foil, or in the case of recordable media burn marks in the foil. The plastic, when scratched, just reftacts the laser, causing errors.

Toothpaste is mildly abrasive, so it basically works like a polishing compound. As for the alcohol ruining CDs, unless it can take off the top label, which I seriously doubt, there really isn't any way for it to ruin CD's. As bicostp said, the data on CDs is on the foil on the top side of the disc, underneath the label (or sandwiched in the middle of the disc for DVDs), so the only thing messing up the bottom of the CD will do is make it temporarily unreadable.

Now switch to moving in and out from the center of the disc to the edge and back (the way you're supposed to wipe CDs, but back and forth). Do this for a few laps, possibly in the opposite direction of the swirls. Use a little bit more force this time.

Rinse the disc

Now pat it dry with a T-shirt. (patting won't scratch it like rubbing will)

I'd only do this as a last-ditch effort, or for really scratched CDs. This should only be done for scratches that are really noticeable, abrasions, or scratches that follow the path of the laser.

This will leave some swirling on the discs, but it should fix about 95% of broken CDs. There may be some scratches on your CD before you started that are presistent, but they may be so bad that nothing will fix them.

DISCLAIMER: Your results may vary! This is the best technique I used, biut it may not work for you. THERE IS A RISK OF DESTROYING THE DISC! PLEASE do not be mad at me if you try this and screw up a disc! I have not tried this on DVD-based media. The discs Iused were so bad they wouldn't work properly. (ie wouldn't boot my PSone)

As for your ps2 games, I personally dont like either of them. Starsky and Hutch is clearly the better of the two, but I dont like it. Though the shooting while driving is a cool feature, the gameplay is horrendousl boring. Igot bored after about 1/2 hour. You might like it though. Stuntman, I absolutely hated. The game play is boring, and takes forever to load. Its also quite boring in the beginning as the stunts are stupid. Thats probably why those two games are $5, (i got them a few months ago for $10 each I believe)
