Emulators dont give you the "i made it myself and its awesome" feel. Poeple just go out and by something off the shelf and no skill is required. People will still portablize for either lack of money to buy the emulator machine, moral values (about the legality), and just because its fun to make things yourself.

Hehe... something is only truly illegal if the laws making it so can be enforced. I don't know anyone, nor have I heard of anyone, who has gotten arrested for ROM use.

I prefer PC games myself, which will lead to PC portablization. While i'm at it, why not load some roms for the traditional gaming as well? That's my mindset.

what i was trying to say before, is that emulation is just as "involved" and "i did it myself" as portabilization. youre all looking at it from a slightly differnet angle though.

you are all "end users" of emulation, which is why it dosent have that "i did it myself feel". but think about it. if you were to give your portable to someone, to them it would not have the "i did it myself" feel to it either.

if you actually go and learn a system inside out, well enough to be able to program an emulator, and then you program that emulator, you would be very proud of what you have done. It would probably take months or possibly years of hard work, if you were starting from scratch.

i love my gp2x but i didnt just get it for emulators, there are aeveral already but few are really playable at fullspeed etc, got it because i wanted something that could do a lot of different things in one package, the gp32 was what i wanted for a while but when i heard about the 2x i decided i wanted it instead. it can do a lot of the same things the psp can but with more style and a smaller pricetag!

I use a n64 emulator, but I love the real thing better than a stinkin emulator

I would say that the two are based in very different worlds, and so we won't see either dying out.

The portable is based on learning the HARDWARE. Learning how to shrink it, how to make it run more efficiently, that kind of thing.

On the other hand, the emulator allows one to learn the SOFTWARE. What makes the innards tick, how to get past the trickery of alternate programs, etc.

Personally, I'm more of an emulator fan. I already built a portable, but when I go somewhere to actually use a handheld device, I like to be able to carry multiple games. Hence, I go emulator. I also know places that don't give me virii when I download the games, so I'm more or less safe. But that's just me. I prefer knowing how something's software works than how its hardware does.

People don't know how a car works, they just know how to use it. They don't fix things themselves because it's easier to pay someone to do it.

My dad fixes our cars, and I do oil changes for my mom and im 14.

i know how a car works, from the engine to the rear differential and most of everthing in between, except for fuel injectors, i dont know much about those

aw, man, I suck with cars. Actually, I have a funny story that happened a couple days ago...

My car needed about a quart of oil, my dad told me. We had 2 containers, one had a little taken out, and one had just a little in it. I decided to combine the 2 containers, and it barely fit in there. Screwed the cap on, took it to the car, and unscrewed the cap. Then, at the time I was squeezing the bottle, and it started coming out, spilling some on the car. I rushed to get some paper towels, and was wiping everything off, when a guy walks up to me. He was asking if I wanted coupons for Jiffy Lube, or some place like that... and he was dead serious (he works for a promotion company)
