Post by Undisclosed »

well...i bought a new dvd/cd burner and for some reason my pc doesnt say it is a dvd/cd burner, i guess it says its just a cd rom drive. It came with the newest nero burning software (downloaded that). I dont know what to do.

by 'doesn't say' it's a dvd burner, what do you mean? is it Nero failing, or is Microsoft explorer just a little confused?

will nero let you burn DVDs on it?

Try installing drivers, reinstalling OS, or checking your BIOS ;)
Or, call tech support.

I cant burn anything with it. When I go to control panel, system, hardware, device manager the pc says its just a cd rom drive. So im guessing some drivers arent installed.....well i didnt get any on the cd and i checked the website and it wont let me download those of their site.

on my comtpuer, it says its a CD-rom drive unless you put a dvd in it. try putting a DVD in... does it "turn into" a dvd drive?

your not being able to burn problem and your "cd-drive" may be completely unrelated. (do you know how to use nero?)

anyhow, you cant usually download drivers for optical drives, they are all installed automatically from within windows.

to uninstall it, right click my comptuer (in windows xp) and go "properties". go to the "hardware" tab, and then "dveice manager". find your DVD drive on the list, right click, and uninstall it.

when you restart your comptuer, windows will automcatically reinstall it. thats about the best you can do. it should work.

if nero still dosent work, uninstall it and pop it back on. its a pain in the ass, but sometimes it just works for some reason..

If you had an installation CD (a.k.a drivers) install that, otherwise Windows should have installed drivers for it on detection. I'd say if you dont have a installation CD, go to the device properties and update the driver.

As for Nero, a drive like the one I have supports both CD and DVD burning so you'll have to see change the option for burning. I dont know the way to change the burn options for anyother burning program, well besided K3B.
