Hi modding guru's,
I have a question concerning my LCD screen (bibben interactive)
I modded the screen with white leds. Not the way Ben has done in the book though. I used 4 Hi-Bright SMD LED's (they suck 80 mA alltogether). Somewhere in the 2 Candela region. Great brightness, and with the "LCD board brightness mod" (jumping a resistor) it's even playable in direct sunlight (had to search for it on the board though, because its not a sony screen)
The problem though is this.
Behind the LCD-glass (what's actually blocking the light to create the image) there's this big chunk of acrylic plastic that has a grid of holes on the backside. (supposedly because the oroginal cold cathode tube only goes around two sides of the plastic chunk)
I modded out the LCD so it would have a LED on each corner, all pointing to the center of the screen (this works great because the leds have an opening angle greater then 90 degrees).
All well, but here's the catch. The aforementioned circle (lensey) grid creates a checkerboard pattern (redgreenblueredgreenblue..) on the screen when the Psx is turned on. Supposedly the lenses break the light up like a prism. This is highly annoying..
If someone has a clue as to what might help (sanding the back of the acrylic, using a other type of "backlight plastic", etcetera), I would be ever gratefull.

Try going to your home improvement store where they sell flourescent light panels. (What they put under flourescent lights in those rectangular office lights).
In the US here we have home depot, I don't know what you have in the Netherlands.
If you can cut one of these light panels and get one that is smooth on both sides, it should work.

nevermind, I found a suitable solution.
I kinda grinded/sanded off the focussing lenses on the acrylic, and then I
turned the whole plastic chunk around. Now the sanded, (thus blurrey side)
goes toward the LCD portion.
I then tried to put a mirror on the side where the chalky paper was
( I ripped that off, already had a new "chalky" side
), so all light goes thru
the LCD nomatter what.
Results are stunning. the light has the tendency to go through the LCD,
then STILL refract back into the plastic, toward the mirror, and back
through the LCD. This has the effect that all pixels are "blurred", but in a
good (antialiasing) kinda way. Ridge Racer R4's never l;ooked so good
