Personally I don't mind saying "Happy Hollidays", because it covers all three holidays at once. It's a hell of a lot easier than "Merry Christmas, Happy Hanakuh, happy Kwanza".
But, I AM pissed off about this "Holiday Tree" thing. CHRISTMAS IS THE ONLY HOLIDAY TO CELEBRATE WITH A TREE! THE JEWISH DON'T PUT UP A TREE AND CALL IT THEIR CHRISTMAS TREE! THEY.. UH.. HAVE THAT CANDLE STAND! Should that be a "Holiday Candle Holder"? NO!

I've noticed people dragging poor santa into this. santa doesn't have anything to do with the jesus end of xmas, he's all about the buying stuff end of it, and I'm pretty sure he originated as a self-neutering alternative to baby jesus telling you to buy stuff.
I mean, if santa=st. nicholas, he wouldn't be around past the 5th, correct?
I say we keep him around all year--we could do with some more of him. who else has the power to keep Toys R Us open until 10pm...

I'm Christrian, and this to me is near insane. We're the only ones who get snuffed out. All the other religions everyone else can tolerate, if you say your Muslim, you get something like "Oh, cool". If you say your Christian, you get some sort of unsatisfied murmer (unless of course the person your talking to is Christian).
First they change the name to X-mas, it's not Christmas, but atleast it was somewhat close, there was still a celebration of it. Now they actualy go and forget all about Christmas, a celebration of the birth of Christ for thousands of years. One Christians, Catholics, and most non-religious people take part in every year. Next lets get rid of Easter, because it has something to do with Chrisitanity. Then lets get rid of Halloween to please the folks who thinks its a satanic ritual. Why don't we get rid of all the holidays while were at it?
Let's not allow the muslim woman wear their hijabs (head scarfs). Why dont we? Because that would be crazy right? To not allow people to show their faith? That would be completely rediculous and retarted (for lack of a better word). Ohhhhhhhh wait a minute, didn't that already happen to Christians(me) with that Christmas thing?!
Yes! It did.
Happy Holidays from the "MAN"
and
Merry Christmas from me!

The thing about ads and decoration and everthing like that. You can ignor it. If I walk into a store and see a lot of stuff I dont like or am offended by I dont have to stay there nor do I have to make a big fuss and act like I'm the center of the Universe by filing a complait that I am bothered by the decorations or the atmosphere in that store.
But I guess I cant expect companies to have a spine, after all this is America were you can sue someone who sold you the coffee that you stupidly put in your lap, or can say that the enviorment is hostial. If people would face facts that freedom is a two way street (even after 9/11) that people should be able to express their right to sing of this religous holiday season.

I'm with you Sniper! It is insane...
They get the term "X-mas" from the greeks and "X" meaning Christ. I have nothing against the greeks period, however, we are in our homeland, so what is so hard about saying merry christmas? Is it that difficult to say a word with a few more letters in it?
I respect all cultures and everyone's beliefs, but as I said before, this is a Christians time to shine and I say MERRY CHRISTMAS with full pride to anyone and everyone.

Yeah, my school set up a Chistmas tree in the commons, and I said, "Hey, look a Chriistmas tree!" This other kid said, "No, it's a holiday tree."
Me: "It's a Christmas tree..."
"No, you can't it's not legal."
"I can call it whatever I want. I have free speech!"
"No, theres rules against free speech, did you know that you can get a detention for saying Christmas tree?"
"If I got a detention for saying Christmas tree, then I would get a lawyer."
This rambling continued for at least 10 minutes.
I stopped talking because I knew I was right. He said, "Oh, you've been beat, oh, owned!"

You should have punched him and taken his lunch money. Then use it to buy CHRISTMAS lights and write out on the school roof "IT'S "CHRISTMAS", NOT "HOLIDAY" MOTHER*******!" XDvb_master wrote:He was pushing me around prior to that. I was pretty argry. If you hear anyone say "Menorah", interrupt them and tell them it's a "holiday candelabra".
Seriously. They cannot punish you for excersising your Constitutoinal right to free speech. (Unless you're in Canada; I dunno what it is up there.

I always thought that X-mas was a way to shorten the word "Christmas" personally. Then again, I never was interested in politics and its correctness until a year or 2 ago...
hmmm, that gives me an idea... If you don't mind me asking, MilkMonster, would you be offended if stores always said "Merry Christmas" rather than "Happy Holidays" given the fact that this country is made mostly of Christians? I know I said I wouldn't, but I can easily see where the only way to really know is to experience the situation yourself, and you're more close to that kind of a situation than I am.
