It turns out that Sony does not hate homebrew, it hates the holes in its PSP OS which homebrew people have learned to exploit. In reality, these holes are being used to illegally rip the contents of entire UMD's to MemorySticks.

Sony only wishes to protect their own games and media from extreme piracy.

You know, I think a system with two 200Mhz processors won't have to much trouble emulating a 33Mhz PSone processor and the accompanying chipset. I think we'll see mid-twenty fps's (frame skip 1-3), with sound.

I'm still waiting to see a 3D game actually display 3D graphics, though :?

yea, no sound and currently no support for 3d games, but the 3d support and improved compatability should be here this week in some form, but seeing ffVII with sound and 20+ fps is probably a LONG way off, you have to figure the gp2x has been shipping less than a month, most people dont have theirs yet and to see a psx emulator already was totally unexpected for EVERYONE, no one was expecting this, especially this good, for at least a YEAR.

since (I'm guessing) FFVII with sound and FMVs would take at least a 1gb card--I don't think there are all that many people who are seriously jonesing for it. I suppose sound and movie could be downsampled, or cut, but that's nearly criminal.

*cough* compactflash/microdrive support *cough*

I suppose the related CF hardware could always be servo-taped to the back of the unit and have it connected externally through that EXT. port. whenever somebody writes a driver. It really wouldn't be too bulky

Oh man, I so want a preorder for Christmas. Even if I don't get the actual thing 'til next year, I still want it. I mean, freakin' 2 AA batteries! Let's see another SNES/PSX-supporting portable do that.

okay fine, darnit! I just put my money where my mouth was and ordered it. I have until dec 27 before I pack up and until dec 31 before I have to be out and on the road. I should have plenty of time, but the GP32Z site still has a few pages that list it as a preorder--I'm hoping they're outdated.

odd pages, like this one:
http://gp32z.com/gp2x.html

the 'screen recall' has me nervous too, but since it's a known issue, I'm hoping the stores are lo longer selling them.
but anyway, what's working great on this system so far? Nes? Any good intrepreters? and has anybody found the tv-out pins yet?

gp32z.com lists them as "in stock" which makes them the only place that I've seen that isn't selling them as a 'preorder'

so if we order now we will get the firmware with less bugs, right, because we would be getting the second batch?
